SP2 Problem?

My version of trainz has just had the SP2 Patch completed so i installed it :)

Problem is, now my game runs really slow and everything takes ages to load, form buildings to baseboards :(

Can you help??

Thanks:D , but there is a lot of "Tecky" talk ( ) in there, what exacally did you do to fix your problem??

@j_maybury Would that be the cause, im pretty sure it would do that automatically, wouldn't it?

The exact fix to my problem was regarding splines.
For most of the scenery splines in my route, I changed the 'Bendy' value to 0. This value is found within the config file.

Still a techy answer, but theres not really an easy answer. It did solve my problems.

So how do i do it (where to go) and what do i do it to?

I am "techy", just not good with game design and files:D

Have a look at the thread I posted earlier. In the 13th reply on page 1.

This gives step by step instructions on how to change the bendy value.

Ok i understand now but when i open the "config.txt" this is what one says:-

username "1_track_wood"
mini 43
rgb 255,200,0
region "Britain"
length 4
istrack 1
width 4
chunky_mesh "mstand_tex"
chunky_info 0,2,1.2,0.2,0.85,0.3,0.7
kind "track"
kuid 15
type "Rails"
username-de "4mstandard"
username-pl "tor"
username-fr "Voie_bois"
username-nl "1_track_wood"
username-cz "kolej_standardní"
username-es "1_vía_madera"
username-ru "1_путь_лесная"
username-it "Binari_4mstandard"
asset-filename "4mstandard"

kuid-table
{
}
username-hu "1_track_wood"

As you can see there is nothing called "line bendy" so therefore i cannot change anything. Can you help?

I have done a few but this is a built in object does that mean i cant change it?

You have opened up a track item, you only need to do this to spline assets, like fences and such.

Doenst really matter if its built in or not.

Change it so it says 'Bendy 0'

It will affect the appearance slightly.

If your spline is laid out as a tight curve, a gap will appear between each segment.

Ok thanks :D So reverting all track assets to normal and changing anything left, thanks!!!

I'll let you know how it goes!!

Ok, I did greatly improve frame rates, as you said, also some of the things have loaded, including a most of the baseboards but alas still some parts just refuse.

Nothing is loading in those parts:'(

Any other tips?
:(

Another thing you can try is too add the line 'uncached_alphas 1' to certain assets.

Apply this line to flat splines, such as roads and track.

Again, open the config.txt file and at the bottom add the line.

Make sure you get the wording correct, example:-

uncached_alphas 1.

As other lines in the config, make sure there is a large space between uncached_alphas and the number 1.

Try this on your track, it should help a lot.

Big Thing, have you got performance stats, swiched on.
If not, goto surveyor, then options, then surveyor setting, and tick the Show performance stats, box. then move round the map in surveyor, and it will show you, which are the worst Kuids for the Buffer Count.
Check the ones with the highets number count, for bendy, if it isn't there, try replaceing the kuid with a difrent spline, with the replace assets tool.

The example you showed is a track spline. I have found that it is almost mandatory for all track and roads in large routes to add the line "uncached_alphas 1" to the config file if it is not there already. In many cases just modifying the track and roads will be sufficient to fix the problem, but in many other situations the bendy 0 fix is also necessary.

In some of the object splines like trees or grass you will see a line in the config.txt file which indicates a length. If this length is much over 8 to 10 you will find that changing bendy 1 to bendy 0 will cause the spline to hang in mid-air if you are trying to lay it over very hilly country. If this is the case you will need to change back to bendy 1 and in some cases suffer a draw distance performance issue.

It worked!!!!!

You guys are amazing, if a games company did scouting you guys would defiantly be in a job for life!:p

In the end it was a mix of the bendy being changed to 0 and the uncached_alphas 1 being added in:D

I would hug you but your kinda all over the world so that would be expensive;)

And now i know a little about how to troubleshoot if this problem arises again:)

I cant thank you guys enough,
Matty (a very happy Matty) :hehe:

Goodbye!!

Glad you got the problem fixed. With your understanding of the issues and the fixes you can now help others who will be experiencing this same issue in the coming months. When first encountered it can be very frustrating, especially if you are upgrading from build 38599 or previous versions of Trainz. The fix at this point is not ideal, but it does solve the problem in most cases for those willing to invest a little time in modifying the spline config.txt files.

The SP2 fix for TS2009 is obviously not ideal at this point to say the least. However, does anyone know if Auran plans to fix the fix or are we on our own to change Bendys and alphas?
