Some Narrow hauge operations in Romania

Here's something that's pretty interesting - almost like stepping back in time and surely is some inspiration for a route...

The train is too short for running around so the crew tie a cable to the loco motive and to the rest of the train to pull back the consist enough for the engine to squeeze by and couple on the front. The locomotive looks like a German import from the early part of the last century. The wood chip hoppers are modern and are being brought up to a lumber operation where they are switched. The passenger car carries tourists and locals.

Cool video thanks !
Perhaps they can make things a bit easier and convert a hopper to carry fuel etc behind the loco.

Good point! It beats piling up the wood all over the top of the engine. :)

There are other neat videos of this same railroad including some with Ford vans being used to transport passengers and crew along the line. They look funny with the tiny narrow gauge wheels mounted on them.

A nice piece of video footage John; and it is a reminder of how different our life is here in Australia, compared with everyday life in the country areas of Romania. It does conjure up some good ideas for a narrow gauge scenic route. Cheers.

I guess that pulling the logs on the loco helps to dry them, rather like keeping a small log stack indoors on the hearth.

Obviously, there's little concept of health & safety - that wire rope is under a lot of tension and I wouldn't stand near it for all the tea in China!
If it snaps you can say goodbye anyone nearby.

I did notice the roll and sway of the consist, I thought that some of the pre-beta testing sway etc was a bit too much but I was wrong..

Cheers

Nice find. Thanks for posting.

As has been said, great inspiration for route building. The landscape and foliage, and all of that grass covered track suits Trainz and the available assets right down to the ground (literally)! The opening shot looked like something from the Nature screenshots thread, with loads of Trunda and JVC grass in the foreground. It wasn't until the train got closer to the camera that it became apparent that the long grass was growing through the tracks.

One other thought is the reliance that we now have on electronic and power stations to make our trains function in western Europe. If all of that were to be lost tomorrow, TGVs, Eurostar, ICE trains etc. would immediately cease to function, whilst eastern European lines such as the one in the video would be self sufficient and good to go for a great deal longer. Progress!

I tried to make something similar...but i admit that i did not have the patience. You can find this freeware route on my website
