Some issues

Good day everyone..

After messing with this for a few hours.. I've come to post my issues. ..

At first I was having some issues with an engine on the Balezino - Mosti route, that foreign electric the name escapes me and I must say its quite well done in pretty much every respect.... but after "updating" all the assets (almost 32 hours it took )... my issue is why does it have to take 32 hours to update assets that came with the game? Unless of course I purchase a FCT..but 32 hours to update assets that come with the game? Just wow... Especially with that one train that wouldnt even move no matter what I did, funny after updating them .. it moves. I didnt test much else before updating it..

I am also having an issue, that no matter how low my settings, I cannot alieviate.. I get a 1-2 second pause every 10 seconds or so, no matter the route.. I have defragmented my HD before installing Trainz12 and after installing all the updates to the assets included with the game. My computer is a 3.5GHZ 4Core with an Nvidia 560ti OC, windows 7 pro and 16GB of ram.. I am getting 50+ FPS.. but this 2 second pause is annoying (even tried limiting it to 30, no go) I do not have this issue with any of the 136 steam games I own, including train simulator 2014 at Full settings (40-60fps) .. nor FSX with countless addons (orbx, PMDG, A2A..etc.. almost 50 payware applications) almost full settings I get 30-40fps... nor do I have this issue with any of the 100 or so games that I have on my shelf in box. I also do not remmeber this type of issue with Trainz2006 even though I had substandard hardware at that time.

I am also having an issue with the steam train (not sure which) but it is only with that one.. I'll load it back up and edit my post to give the name.. I get like a hazy flickery white coating all over the cab that moves around almost like a shadow.. any fix for that.. (might have been fixed with the updated assets.. I'll have to load it back up and see)...

Any assistance with these matters would be greatly appreciated.

I really would like to love this game.. and am enjoying it thus far thank you..... but that 2 second pause is really getting on my nerves.. makes using the trackIR impossible and 32 hours to update assets.. wow.. in light of that.. how do I backup my game.. just copy the folder will be enough I assume. I would HATE to go through that again. Please do not go on about FCT to update assets that come with the game as I do not believe that I should purchase a ticket for updates to assets, in a timely manner, that I never downloaded to begin with.

With that out of the way.. the routes are beautiful.. the simulation is quite good from what I"ve messed with thus far.. I love the idea that there's an easy mode DCC and a real mode, which I use.. fantastic physics and sound on the trains I did try out so far.... some of the horns could use some work on some trains (I know user made assets).. The tree's swaying is a nice touch, kinda wierded me out a bit when I first loaded it as I thought my train was moving for some odd reason. :)

Thank you also for keeping TrackIR support, even though its hardly usable with all the stuttering and pauses I get when I move my head around. Took me a while to remember that it was activated by ctr-H...

Also the included content is immense.. and I want to thank all the developers of these Engines/trains/assets... most of which I've looked at are quite good.

Love the new VC's on most of the trains, even though some are a bit on the blurry side, most are quite crisp and realistic looking... a big leap from the 2006 version which I was sorely dissapointed in with that aspect. I also love the fact that the few trains that I tried out had working switches, lights, cab lights, compressors.. etc.. at least the train is not just a nice looking model .

I do have a question however. I notice that the DLC that is offered for this game does not have many "in cab" screenshots.. is the quality good in the vc, also are they scripted well?.. I ask cause that is where I usually sit... if so .. I will most certainly be picking up some of those, especially the steamers.

Hopefully the pausing issue can be fixed.. as that really takes away from an otherwise wonderful simulation. :)

Adam.

How full is your hard drive, for TS12 to work properly you will need to have some empty space on your hard drive. I've forgot how much it needs but someone here will know.

have you tried switching between Direct X and Open GL also try changing screen resolutions as well, se if that makes a difference.

I have a NVidia g force 550gtx and I find it dose not like some resolutions with the latest drivers NVidia has to offer.

well I have over 280GB free on that drive.. I also tried Open GL and performance was dismal compared to Direct X.. have not tried changing resolution. I will try some things tonight and report back. Though about an hour of tinkering has not produced any satisfactory results.

I had a similar problem as you where it would not stop updating and verifying all the assets. what I did was to delete all the faulty assets that I could not fix, and the rest I fixed with PEVs Tools. It could be just one asset that is causing all the problems.
There is one more thing that may help and that is to check that all your drivers are up to date and make sure that all the programs that are running in the background that aren't needed are turned off. I use game booster and driver booster from IObit but there are lots of others that are out there. If you have a system manager like advanced system care, you could use the turbo boost on that to give you better results.

Trainz does a lot of loading from the hard drive in real time, you may find excluding the Trainz folder from on access scans by antivirus programs will improve things as will disabling windows search / indexing. It also helps if you have a fast drive, ideal solution is a 10000 rpm raptor or better an ssd for Trainz.

Make sure you are running at the monitors native resolution and the Nvidia control panel is set for single display for Trainz and the other settings are default, use the 2004 settings option, it works for all versions.

Shouldn't need to do this but many have found improvements when using directx by adding directX9c, DX10 and 11 are not 100% compatible seems to be related to particular graphics cards, see http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/index.php?page=updating-directx. There are a lot of useful tips and advice on Shane's site by the way. Doesn't do any harm adding DX9c all it does is add some missing DX9c files that MS omitted, 10 and 11 are still fully functional. Symptoms of needing DX9c are slow performance and an an excessive amount of stuttering.

Make sure when closing TS12 you wait for the background processes to finish before shutting down the PC otherwise you will frequently get updating database happening on starting up, there is an option to display the database process windows in Launcher > options > developer > show database process windows. Just wait for the TadDaemon Window to disappear from the taskbar before shutting down, it may take 30 seconds or so. It's also handy for checking that TadDaemon is not verifying things when you are in surveyor or driver, which will cause pauses and stuttering.

May also find that running a Database repair after a new install although depending on the size of your install and HD speed it may take a while, will improve things a lot.

Updates? most of those are put on the DLS by the original creators not N3V and TS12 has been out for a long time now. If you download from within the game not using content manager, it does not come off the 100mb limit that non FCT users have. Worth mentioning that the FCT charges go towards paying for the DLS, that includes the free downloads, without FCT users it's doubtful there would be a free DLS.

First off.. I'm not getting a raptor HDD or an SSD just to run this one game proper, when ALL my other games do not exhibit this problem. I get the hiccup wither its OpenGL or Directx.. Directx performs whole bunches better albiet the 2 second pause every few seconds.. certain its not directX.

As far as content updates.. the content that is getting updates is installed with a *FRESH* installation of trainz... the first of which I tried did not work right ..couldn't get the train to move after updating the train moves..... updating already installed assets should not take over 30 hours... also doing it from within train simulator uses over HALF of my video cards processor chewing up electricity while it just sits there showing the screen at over 200fps...

This game needs some optimizing for sure.. as it stands I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get it to work proper.
