Hello everybody!

I have some questions regarding the forums and "customising" your account.

1. Is there a way to enable posting animated .gifs in my signature?
2. Is there a way to enable attachments in forum posts and signature?
3. Is there a way to enable posting a custom avatar?
4. Why am I not able to do these things?

Thanks in advance,

1.: If you can host an animated GIF on an image hosting website (such as ImageShack), then I do not see why not. I have seen other users do it.

2. and 3.: Such permissions would have to be enabled by a administrator, I believe. The attachments permission would be great for us heritage users who do not have personal websites to post some content up for download, since we no longer have access to the DLS. However, such a permission, if allowed for a lot of users, probably would need a maximum allowed file size to prevent hordes of huge content files from clogging up the servers. The ability to upload custom avatars may be disabled for most users for security reasons, but the variety of avatars, as well as the fact that not all of them conform to the same standards, suggests that some users indeed can upload avatars.

I use Host Then Post.org for putting images on the forms. I didn't think it would accept GIFs. You can see by my signature (at the time of writing) that Host Then Post worked, as I was able to upload the GIF and use it in my signature.

Does the marquee tag work on the forums?

Are you talking about the HTML <marquee>...</marquee> tag?

I doubt it, as the forum uses vBCode, so unless there is a [marquee]...[/marquee] tag, then you probably would not be able to get it working.

P.S. Look at how I was able to enter the above tags without them doing any thing. That might answer the question right there.

Try making an animated GIF with the text moving in a marquee motion. That would probably be the best way to do that. Just make sure that you follow the policy on signature size.

Regards.
