Software for modal train layout?

Hi there. I'm new to the hobby and forums here and I'm wondering if any of the software by this developer is meant for laying out model railroads?

I'm building a N scale layout using Atlas code 55 track. So I'm wondering if there is this software, does it have selectable track by type and vendor; also can I give it a table size, and essentially drag and drop track and start building? Or is more of the software here for simulating a real life train, and not a model layout...

I use a mac and ipad so I would be looking for software for those platforms.

Trainz dose not do this but I know there use to be software that dose that for PC years ago, try looking at Walthers.

Atlas Right Track will do this. Granted its only for Atlas track.

Trainz is a simulator. So you could build/plan your layout in Trainz. Then get an idea of how it will look and operate. But you would not have the use of any manufacture's track, or prices.

I don't believe Atlas offers Right Track any more. If you can run PC emulation software on your Mac, you might take a look at RRTrack. It's designed for sectional track and has a library for Atlas Code55. I used it a couple of years ago (on a PC) to help my nephews plan a small N scale layout. It doesn't have the features or the flexibility of CadRail, but it doesn't have the learning curve either and, at least in our experience, was an accurate planning tool.

You might give SCARM (Simple Computer Aided Railway Modeller) a try ... it's FREE. Don't know if it works on a mac though.

Trainz is probably more suited to taking an existing model railway plan and reproducing in "V-Scale" than the other way round - for example several people have had a go at Kalmbach plans, such as Hungry Horse. The problem comes when going round 20" (HO) radius curves - you can get away with it on a model but tends to look a bit daft in the sim!
