Snow, and Snow Altitude

So I know we have weather affected objects and textures that when set to winter months will show snow. The problem I am having it getting the tress to show ans green the July, and then have a foot of snow on the ground in December. I have toyed with the snow altitude setting, but If I set it to 200 meters, the lowest point on my route is about 200 every thing shows as snow all the time. If I set it to 400, the highest point on the line is 380m, I get summer and fall colors, but no snow.

What I want to be able to do is set the time of year to any date, and have the routes trees, and textures reflect that. Hench why I have been using seasonal textures.

Any way of doing this?

Have you tried adjusting the date you are running the route in? I set mine to July when I don't want snow, and to September when I want an autumn season. This may also affect your snow line as well because if your snow line is set to 400m then you'll have snow above that line at all times even in the summer months.

Yep, thats what I was doing. I set to December 15th, I dont get snow. I set to July 4th, green grass. November 2nd, fall colors.

As for the snow line, I have its set to 400, and every thing is snow less all year. The part of the world I am building has hot summers and cold snowy winters.

You've discovered the reason why I decided not to make seasonal textures standard on my reskins. It's much work for a system that doesn't have a working relationship between geographic location, date of year, and snow line. Tume had encouraged me to use the seasonal aspect, but I don't think the game is quite ready for that yet. Close, but not ready.

I think you (JIb228) are having trouble because the seasonal assets don't include snow textures as their 'winter' season option. Creators have been following the early Auran examples and reserving snow exclusively for 'above snow line' conditions. This over-rides the time of year effect. In other words, snow is not really a seasonal texture in these assets, it's only an altitude-dependent condition. I suspect the logic behind this approach is that having snow as a true seasonal texture would produce anomalies like snow in the tropics at sea-level during northern- or southern hemisphere winters. As it stands, your map will follow the seasons of the year for mid-latitude locations except for the very depth of winter. At that point, you need to simulate your cold snowy winter by (manually) decreasing the snowline altitude to less than the lowest altitude of your map. This will force everything to display its snow texture, if it is equipped with one.

As Euphod pointed out, it's not a fully automatic system.

Perhaps unwisely, I'm taking the view that if I am to make snow-textured versions of my models (buildings at this stage) I may as well make them altitude-dependent and bundle them into the same asset as the summer-textured versions. At least they will change their snow/summer skins in sync with the surroundings and save the user the trouble of creating a separate map for each season.

I'd like to do the same with my vehicles, but they would need both scenery and traffic versions and the problem of different floating heights on different roads is unresolved, so I'm not doing any of those at this stage.

Many thanks to JIb228 for starting this thread,

I was wondering is there a tutorial, on how to make the snow appear with seasonal assets and textures.?.

I have had a play around with the snow line, moving it from 2000.00 to 400 and 200 and so on, with not a flicker of snow anywhere, I've even changed the computer date to the middle of December, with not a flake of snow in sight, I am using Brittany's Ultra textures, as they seem to be the best to use, but I cannot for the life of me, change the green grass texture to snow.

I know I am doing something wrong, but I cannot figure out what. for added information... I am testing the seasonal textures, on a standard flat baseboard, set in the United Kingdom.

If anyone can lead me to a tutorial for snow line and seasonal textures and assets, I would be very much grateful.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who maybe able to help.

Joe, its not based on system time, but on session time. In the environment window, set your snow altitude to 0, then set the time of year to December. You should get snow then.

Thanks every one else for the info. I guess Ill just have to make that change to lower the snow altitude when ever I want to have snow.

Thank you JIb228, I'll give that a go, and let you all know how I get on, it's my very first time using the snow line feature, but we have all got to start somewhere, to learn something new.
