Snapping Tunnels

I wish there was a way, there are a few tunnels that don't snap to the grid, but they aren't splines, any one else know of any good rotatable tunnels ? There is a "Tunnel Portal" and "some other" tunnel portal that is positionable and rotatable on DLS.

Is there any way to stop the "snap to grid" behaviour of tunnels?
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Set the height tag in the config to -1, or any other negative number . This determines the height the tunnel hole is dug. This will stop the tunnel from snapping to the grid. Now the tunnel will no longer dig a hole either, so to dig the hole you'll have to use the dighole tool, 38408:28009 is the one I use, located in objects. Then pull the edge of the hole up so that it is hidden in the tunnel entrance. You'll have to dig 2 holes for a double track tunnel. Here's a tip, if you dig the hole and its in the wrong place, no problem just look down in the hole and you'll see a red triangle. Just delete the red triangle and the hole will fill back in.
If you're planning on uploading the route things might get messed up on the end user as the tunnel will revert to its default settings, snapping to the grid.

Try tunnel_1 1 track California style 38408:38000

Sir, you are a genius and a gentleman. You've no idea how much work this will save me.
Thanks,
Mick.

Although bnsf50's suggestions work for preventing the 'snap-to-grid', (and also the self-adjusting of the terrain that is equally annoying) there seems to be a problem in that now the trains won't go into "tunnel view" when they go into the tunnels. Is there a way to fix this?
Thanks,
Mick Berg.
EDIT; Actually this isn't true, see my next post.

Yea hit the 1 key.:hehe:

No-no-no-no-no, that's not the answer! Total 'hands-off' operation is the goal here. But I've discovered that the problem isn't due to your fix, it depends on which track is used in the tunnel. I replaced the original track in the tunnel with a 4-rail LU track and that caused the problem. I will investigate further.
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Total hands off would be the 4 key, sitten on the side sippin a cool one and watchen the trains go by.

The no automatic dig hole thing is where the problem of not jumping to tunnel vision is at. A small price to pay for the better feature of being able to adjust the tunnel freely with out disturbing the terrafirma or snapping to the grid lines.. To prove it, go into a tunnel that still has the height set at a positive number equal to the height of the tunnel roof and you'll find that the tunnel vision is back.

Tunnel Vision Problem Solved??

I think I've found the answer. In order to get "tunnel vision" in a tunnel that has had auto-digholes and snap-to-grid disabled by using a negative height, the track used in the tunnel must have the tag "istunnel=1" in its config.txt file. Spanner, if you're watching, your "LUL track for tunnels" (kuid:87487:100012) doesn't have this tag. I added it and it fixed the problem. (BTW I never upload anything so there is not an issue here. I will email you.) Thanks bnsf50 and everyone else.
Mick Berg.
EDIT: I've found that this tag can be very useful. By using track with the "istunnel" enabled, you can keep the view close to the tracks, handy in stations in cuttings and such like.
