Single main line with passing tracks

I have a single track main with passing tracks on a route, that I'm currently working on. The junctions are set so that a consist will go to the right at the passing track when traveling in either direction.

After traversing the passing track, the consist (Running under AI) comes to a stop and has to wait for a green signal to open the junction and proceed.

Is there any type of script, on the DLS, that will automatically open the junction at the end of the passing track, allowing the consist to proceed, without coming to a complete stop, unless, of course, there is another consist up ahead?

Thanks, Joe

The problem you might encounter with what you want is your train will control the junction. If an oncoming train is on the track it wont be able to pass the junction onto the other loop. You could try and reverse the junction set up so the exit is always set and use the track direction marker to make the train take the right route.

Thanks for the suggestion stagecoach. Unfortunately, when the consist gets to the junction, it stops, and after about fifteen seconds, it drops out of AI.

Hi Joe,

I use the dual track direction markers which help keep the AI moving and on the right track (pun intended). I too have had AI lose their commands as though they go on a lunch break. Telling them to continue the schedule seems to work fine though as though they've forgotten to come back to work.

Hi John,

For the time being, I think I'll just leave it as it is. I'm not much of a train runner, but I thought that some type of script was available to prevent the consist from coming to a complete stop at the end of the passing loop.

Thanks for the input. I hope that all is well with you.

Hi Joe --

This might give you a few ideas:

Do try "Signal Link Route" and the "Signal Link Session" from the Download Station.

Tell me if it helps.

"Krashnburne" uses the same set up. Download the route, download one of the sessions with AI, go into Driver then fly around in the 4-key view and watch the AI (the AI runs in both directions) work itself through the single track and loops.

Hi Joe,

I'm doing okay, actually a lot of good things have happened lately so I won't crow too loudly. :)

Anyway, one of the things to watch out for is the junction settings as you've found out. I will manually set my junctions for the AI driver I am keeping an eye on or riding with so he'll be able to stay at speed. The only other way I can think this would work would be a junction linker of some fashion. The problem I see though is the oncoming traffic will be stopped on the single track and this will cause a back up.

Assume a single north/south main with a passing siding to the left of the main when facing north. Normally, a SB train would always take the passing siding (go right) even if there was no on opposing traffic. A NB train would always take the main (go right). Is this your situation? What I do with my layouts is set the default switch throws to accommodate the main line. I use priority markers (priority 3) at each end of the siding to keep trains off the siding unless that is the only available route (i.e., there is a train blocking the main). AI will only direct a train onto the siding if that is the only route available or you have directed it to a trackmark located within the siding. I cannot say for certain, but I don't recall my trains running under AI always stopping at the siding to wait for the switch direction to change. But, I only use 2006 and 2010.

If it stops and then drops out of AI it is usually that the next command cant be done or seen by the driver. Check that the lever is correctly placed and the path to the next command location is also correct.
