The patch for 2009 does not work in windows vista. After you load the patch, trains 2009 will not work. It gives a message trains is shutting down due to an error.

Not Vista's fault. Did you follow the directions for installing the patch to the T, and I mean to the T?

I don't know what you are talking about to the "T"
the service pack is an automatic update for 2009
it works on XP but not vista

It's a phrase. It means you should follow the instructions for installing the service pack exactly.

I would recommend reinstalling Trainz. Once you've reinstalled it. without starting TS09 or CMP2, patch it. Then give it a go again.

Do as Lo_Poly says, then after loading 09 and the patch, boot up 09 click on content then the the file tab (top left corner) and then click on extended data base repair, and wait untill it finishes before you go messing around with it

I agree... I also suggest installing the program and SP1 with Administrator credentials. This will ensure that the program will run and the SP1 will install properly.

In addition... Before going into Trainz, go to the Conent Manager first to let it rebuild the database. Once the rebuild is done, you're good to go.

Traiz 2009 works fine in Vista until i run the update patch. I did everything you told me, it still does not work. The patch works fine on windows XP, but not on Vista. In vista a window comes up telling me trainz has stoped working.

1) Reinstall TS2009 using administrator rights
(Right click on the setup.exe and run as administrator instead of doing the autorun. You need to browse the DVD to do this.

2) Install the service pack with administrator rights
Same deal as above, right click on the sp1 installer and run as administrator.

The program should go in okay then without errors.

3) Once patch is installed you need to let Trainz repair the database.

Hope this helps. This is definitely NOT a Vista thing. I'm running Vista Ultmate SP2 (beta) and it works fine.

well thanks for all the help. The patch will not work on my Vista computer, I will run without the patch. Works fine until i load the patch. I have another computer XP the patch works fine.

I also have SP1 running fine with Vista. I followed the same process outline by John above. Not sure if its absolutely neccessary for the SP1 patch, but I always disable my Anti-virus when installing Trainz software and patches. It may be worth trying.

Enough people have SP1 running without issue under Vista that I would suggest its worth considering that maybe Vista is not the issue for you as well. Maybe there is something else going on with your 'Vista Machine'?

I too have this problem.........

I have Vista Home Premium SP1 & installed Trainz SP1 with Administrator rights. I have installed completely twice with same results.:(

The DVD works as delivered until SP1 is downloaded, but even after running the extended content repair on the database, (which indicates no errors upon completion) the program will not go past the launch screen.:'(

FootplatePhil, May have nailed it, make sure the virus killers swich off when loading both, the game and the patch.
If you leave the virus killer no it WILL screw up the installation. this I have found to my cost many times. it eazy to forget to turn it off.

I use Trend Micro Security software and have tried loading Trainz with this software turned off -- it still did not work after the SP1 patch was loaded............
