Signals at junctions

I follow a previous post which stated:

Starting from the facing side of the turnout, in sequence:

Spline point
Signal
Lever
Turnout spline point
First spline point on trailing branch
Other-way signal

Distances don't matter so much as these are presumably "stop" signals and you will have placed others to provide necessary stopping distances.

Standard UK practice is, I think, to allow an overlap of a quarter of a mile. ("Overlap" is the term for the safety zone between the signal and whatever it is protecting, in case of the train overrunning the signal). Quarter mile is about 400 metres, this distance looks about right when I've used it.

opening up a can of worms here. it depends on your line speed, the higher it is the more distance you need.
different locos have different stopping characteristics ie one will stop quicker than the next.
a freight will take longer to stop than a passenger.
so I would say there is no optimum distance you have to base all on your slowest stopper. Or in trainz case guess then alter as required.
