Signal - Advanced Approach Aspect

I do not understand the meaning of Advanced Approach Aspect. Or, specifically what is an "Advanced Approach"?

I would imagine that it is a signal very distant of an interlocking home signal, sort of a warning signal color/position, that a "Final" home signal is coming up soon, and displays a color/position aspect at what speed to approach the home signal.

Some major interlockings have 3 consecutive signals, one distant, one approach, and finally the one home signal (at the turnout)

On the BNSF, the solid yellow signal is the "approach" signal to the next signal being red. A flashing yellow signal is the "advanced approach" signal telling you the next signal will be yellow.
