Work in progress, currently cooking up a stand-in for the steam gen tender the passenger Joes ran with, plus some of the Brooks Stevens painted cars and the two 1950's versions of this scheme.

Hint hint, on a Pacific Northwest binge, never know what else could be in the works!

Here's my current attempt at creating a C&O RPO from pweiser's model. I spent most of the morning redrawing the rivets and the shadow lines, as well as applying the wash layers that came with the skin kits for the coaches since I've come to enjoy the worn feel they produce, and I think the car itself came out nicely, however, I am still trying to figure out what to do with the top script, because as you can see, there really isn't any room for it up there. I could try making it bigger and then spacing out the words between the gaps in the doors and windows, which might work but I feel would look kinda shabby, or I could omit it altogether and instead slap C&O For Progress logos at each end and call it there. Really not too many ways I can go about it, with it not being a C&O car (I can only find two cars in my searches that look similar-ish to this one). Anyways, here it is, my apologies for the ARN textures being kinda in the way:

I think the best solution would be a logo on the ends. The problem is just the windows being so high; one possible solution would be to use a different car. For instance, I could get you the skin kit later today for the WP ex-RPO "special caboose" located here. It's not as close to a C&O prototype as that car, but the windows at least will not block the text.

I'll go ahead and add the logos to it and remove the top script and call this version done. I wouldn't mind trying that WP car, it looks like it would probably work alright. I installed it and it looks pretty good, worth a shot.

Now I just re-read this and I do not remember what steam gen tender you are referring to. Could you or someone else show me a picture of one?

The Milwaukee Road had a few of them, but generally operated them in the winter or when using non-steam generator equipped units as far as I can tell. Not entirely sure, but I do know they existed and they'd be a neat kitbashing project.

At some point gonna go through and skin up the trucks, but right now I'm just going to move on to finishing up some other stuff since they don't look too bad under the new skins as it is.

Doing a quick Google search for "Milwaukee Road Steam Generator Car" works just as easily.

I'll be curious to see what base model you choose Jackson, I'm not sure we have anything like this yet it Trainz.

I don't think I'm going to go for that one in particular. The Trainorders page shows proof that a car like this one existed, which seems to be an easier option:

Probably going to use the DLS F7 Hudson tender as a base and then see what external meshes I can dig up to slap on top.

Another route for the top one would be to see what I can do with an oil bunker and one of Steve's auxiliary tenders, but I'm not entirely sure how that's going to work out. One thing's for sure, it's going to be nowhere near exact. I'm just trying to get a decent representation of one.

About a year ago, I made an NS SD70M-2,

I thought, it was good back then, but I was bored a few days ago and made a new one.

I think this one is way better.

No they aren't going to be released because of TUME's licensing, and I promise if I get a single PM or Skype message about someone gimmie pigging for them I will never release anything MILW if I can help it, even if the licensing permits. You have been warned.

Might be your best bet, some of the real ones were made from the F6/F7 streamliner tenders, and a few from the Class A streamliners as well if I recall correctly. I think their usage would be up in the mountains when steam generators in the EP4/EP1/Bipolars weren't enough, seeing as part of the reason they electrified was because of the freezing temperatures up there made steam locomotive operation a bit difficult... would make sense. Good luck with your tenders!

Cheers,
SM

Thanks for the info Leo, that would probably explain the lack of pictures of the cars in service. There's a similar lack of pictures of the Olympian Hiawatha and Columbian under wire in the winter time too.

The GN did a similar thing with their electrification as well, and they kept boiler cars in reserve for passenger trains traveling over Stevens Pass while they ran electrics through the Cascade Tunnel.

Now, time to figure out the whole caboose situation before I tackle the tenders.

Also Ben, shhhhhhh (yes it will still be needed).

To work the newly refurbished coaches, Gurtantown Central Railroad purchased 2 ex-BNSF (nee-ATSF) GP30s. The first unit was rebuilt at the GTCRR's own shops and reclassified as a "GP30-2". It has Dash 2 electrics from a GP38-2, but retains the old prime mover and body. Of note, the gyralite assembly was patched out, and a high headlight installed for use in the tunnels. The 2nd unit is to be numbered 3702, and will either be painted the same red, or into the GTCX Red and Silver livery.

Just finished the second version of the C&O RPO based on the WP ex-RPO special caboose from trainzforge. I think this one came out much better, might still tinker a little with it later but for the moment I think it should be good to go. Many thanks to trainboi for the skin kit for this car.
