Sharing Routes on DLS?

Hello, I've finally been able to learn the Trainz 22 surveyor tool to the point where I've been able to re-create a nice sectional track plan off of "Bob's Track Plans" and add realistic (to me at least) scenery (I'm a newbie to Trainz but have been a serious model railroader for 45 of my 50 years on earth).

I don't know, however, which assets are from Jointed Rail or other sites or from the DLS and other routes etc.

Is the best practice for route sharing to keep a second distinct copy of Trainz 22 installed someplace and only use DLS and built in assets if one wants to share layouts with others on the DLS?

Thanks,

Steve

That is essentially what I do. All my development work is done using Trainz Plus, which has Built-in, DLS, DLC and other assets installed, but I also have a copy of TRS22 which only has built-in and DLS assets installed.

You do not actually need to have a second copy of the program installed to achieve this. You can have just one copy and setup several alternative Local Data Folders. These folders store all your installed assets so you can have an alternative Local Data Folder that only has built-in and DLS assets installed as well as your main Local Data Folder which has everything installed.

The following procedure could be used:-
  1. Create the route and session (if applicable) using the full Local Data Folder
  2. Save the route/session as a .cdp file
  3. Switch TRS22 to use the alternative (cut down) Local Data Folder
  4. Install your route/session into the alternative folder - use the Import Content Files from the Content Manager File menu.
  5. See which assets are missing - those that are on the DLS you can download, any others would be DLC or third party assets and would need to be replaced
  6. Switch back to the full Local Data Folder and replace any of the assets that are not built-in or on the DLS
Instructions for doing this can be found on the Trainz Wiki at How_to_Create_a_Clean_Install_and_Additional_User_Data_Folders

Would this work: show all the dependencies of the route and then filter out any items on the DLS and any built-in. Then any that are left are local to your installation and others would not likely have them.

show all the dependencies of the route and then filter out any items on the DLS and any built-in.
I just tried that on a few routes I have. It seems to work - those assets that were left were labelled as "Packaged" or "Payware" or "Third Party".

Method:

In Content Manager:-
  1. right mouse click the route to be checked for DLC and "foreign" assets
  2. select the Show Dependencies option
  3. in the filtered window that opens up add (click the +filter button), just below the list of <kuid>s the following extra filter lines
    • On Download Station = False
    • Built-in = False
