shaky graphics

I am operating ts2009 with a quad cpu quad phenom on xp 32 bit, 2 gigs and a geforce gtx 470 1280 mb. If I run much more than 30 hoppers with 2 engines & 2 helpers the frame rate drops below 24 and down from there, like 8 fps. Passing trains makes for aufull jerky graphics. With the power I'm running I should do better. I must not have the trainsoptions.txt setting correct or the trainz config.
settings or both. I just don't know whats wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Robert Graves aka rrbobby.

In Surveyor, click the Main Menu box and select Options. Move the Max draw dist., Scenery detail, texture detail and train detail sliders a notch or two to the left.

Also increase the good weather fog up a bit.

2ndly, what screen resolution (the bigger the screen, the more effect)

3rdly, your ram on your graphics is a bit low for good performance, I would say min of 2gB

4thly, it does happen on complex high detailed routes, unless all the items on screen, trees, grass etc are selected for good frame rates.

 think I'd better ask N.A.S.A. to build my next machine

A geforce gtx 470 with 1280 mb should be able to run this game without problems, christ a mighty, how much do we have to spend on our machines just to run a train sim. :hehe:

You did not say what route you are attempting to run. If it is a 300 board route with 1,000+ assets it will be jerky with 2Gb of MB ram. Your video card ram is more than enough.

I have 3.5GB XP 32bit and Win 7 4GB RAM... thats system ram , naff all to do with my vid card.. which is a 4830.. 512mb... works fine... sure if you a 300= boards etc it will slow down ... but the engine of the game is rubbish ... eg I can play Left for dead 2 at max settings... play's very well.. with fps reg over 50..

Hypo-dermicly Schpeaking ...

If you have a 10,000 baseboard route, 300 miles long... and load 786 locos ... and 14,000 freightcars ... all spaced far apart on the route ... isn't your video card only reading the locos and cars that are in view, within line of sight ?

Is this why my video card went Bzzzzzt ? 400 Watt video card, plugged into a 300 Watt power supply) ?

Very true, Cascade on both accounts on the video card.

The CPU being very busy can cause the stutters too as it tries to keep track of all the 786 locos, the 14,000 freight cars, the 600 interactive industries, crossings, driver commands, and other scripts running at the same time.

My Video Card is bad

So if I put in a replacement 300 Watt video card, in my 300 Watt PC ... Will all the thousands of assets spread out all over my huge route, cause the new video card to go Bzzzzzt as well ?

My choice is replacing my 300 watt power supply, with a higher wattage power supply, so I can install a higher wattage video card.

Or a new replacement 300 watt video card, that is recommended for my present 300 watt power supply.
