Session weirdness

On editing my route, but keeping my existing session. But deleting my consists and making new ones to drive. I found on a driving session, some of my consists had decided to go on Auto Pilot. or as it said Automatic schedule not player controlled. I did not select this setting, do they go on automatic above a certain number of consists now. Bit of a problem sort of, as they get stuck, derail randomly. Travel backwards as well. I get these little messages all the time, driver is stuck, or has derailed. Sometimes partly rest of consist carries on its own merry way. Just wondering why this has started happening.

A few questions to help me understand what is happening.

Are you using the UDS to switch between Driver and Surveyor (in either direction) when you edit the route? If so ...
  1. Is the session set to Pause (it normally does that automatically) when you enter Surveyor from Driver?
  2. Have you Unpaused the session while still in Surveyor? Derailments can be a sign of Unpaused consists running in Surveyor.
  3. If you are deleting and adding new consists while in Surveyor then I would advise you to click the Restart All Rules button in the Session Editor. Are you doing this?

Don't edit the route without the session attached to it. Information stored in the session relates to the route at the point it was saved. Consists need to be in the session and not the route. Your consists will have had some settings saved in the session and when you try to use the session next time those consists are not there. Edit session in Surveyor will allow you to swap consists and then save both before going to driver.

I dont use UDS. I only use Surveyor classic. Find that 2.0 does not mix well with a route built in classic. I only edit route in edit route, session is done in edit session. And only used to add or remove consists. Driving session I dont pause and exit. Always stop all consists before exiting.
Had 5 consists today doing there own thing, all with multiple commands to go places. I did not add any instructions, all done automatically apparently. Some had lost parts of their consists random derailments I guess.
Took individual control of these consist on Auto, delete destinations, and changing to player control, from auto scheduler.
All quite curious, the one consist I had running under control just random derailed and deleted immediately part of what it was pulling.
The wash up is deleted that session, and will make another. And see what happens.
Interesting to say the least.

The UDS works in both Surveyor Classic (TRS19 and later) and Surveyor 2.0 (Trainz Plus and TRS22PE).

Find that 2.0 does not mix well with a route built in classic.
Surveyor 2.0 simply changes the editing user interface, it does not alter anything in a route originally created in Classic. All my learning of Surveyor 2.0 started out on routes created in Classic and, in the early days, I was editing in Classic more often that I was in Surveyor 2.0. As I gained more experience and confidence I started editing more in Surveyor 2.0 than Classic and, after many months, I now only edit in Surveyor 2.0. Whether I was using Classic or Surveyor 2.0 made no difference.

I only edit route in edit route, session is done in edit session. And only used to add or remove consists.
A common issue is creators getting confused over where they are working - in the route or in the session. I have been caught out in Classic thinking that I am adding a consist to a session but in fact it was being added to the route. At least in Surveyor 2.0 the name of the working layer, in the route or in the session, is visible in two places on the screen - the Layer Palette and the Info Palette.

Some of my early attempts at 2.0 was when editing the route and saving. Then going back in to do more edits the route was locked and parts of the route was missing. Finding the unlock button created more issues, as the original edit had vanished. True I maybe getting mixed up here on session and route ???.. But to edit in classic and then lets try 2.0 mid edit is probably where its going awry. Might try a practise route build and see what happens in 2.0 if messed up no great loss.
Seem to remember in the early days of trains before layers, one could edit in session with no dramas. But routes could vanish into the trainz heaven never to be seen again.......!!!

Never had that experience. I would not know how to lock a route but locking/unlocking layers is easily done in both Classic and Surveyor 2.0.

It indicates, to me at least, a possibly corrupted route or a faulty program install.

Trainz members:
When driving a session then going directly into surveyor (as stated above UDS to switch between Driver and Surveyor)
When editing the session I also found that you have to reset the Restart All Rules (child rules) tab button if changing anything in Surveyor mode,
even if adding a driver or deleting or adding more commands.
Actually the Restart All Rules tab button is frosted out until some changes are made.
Click it then save your changes or create a new session.
I found that if you don't do this then running the session again in driver mode the game crashes (closes down).

My route is a brand new install of Trainz plus after a major issue. When I deleted the whole thing when trying to find why I had quite A FEW Tanes INSTALLED. Not knowing that Trainz plus lives under a TANE heading. So as far as I can tell the route is not corrupted. Trouble is its too large to save to CDP now at 1350mb. Apparently 1gb is the max CDP save allowed.

Currently upgrading the textures on my route to PBR ones Find they dont join well with the older textures. Leave a tiling effect on joins. And now some of my roads sit just a bit below the surface. PBR textures seem to sit a bit higher than the old ones. Been using DS roads forever, so which road sits well on PBR textures. Would send a picture but cannot get it to work.

Just make sure that the two different textures don't meet under a road or track. Extending the texture will normally remove the tile effect.

I do some disguising of some with hedges and the like. But the roads are a issue would take years to change them.

You can disable the PBR effect by changing your Shader quality in Performance settings to Basic. This makes PBR textures work like the older 2d textures and the work well together.
