Session problems

When I open a route to make a change or work on one already created and then go to save the work done I am forced to create a default session. Any saves after the first usually gives me the option of saving the session, creating a new session or not saving a session, the option I would like for the first save as well. Part of the problem is that randomly the default creation is a second blank session, some times it over writes a session I have previously created forcing me to start at square one recreating what I had. I tried using layers and including sessions on different layers. I created sessions with names other then the name the default would assign. The default deleted the layers. Nothing I tried stopped the deletion of the layers, locking or hiding them. Anyone experience anything like this and what was your solution? Besides giving up?

you are not alone...

Well...I don't have an answer yet, but you are not alone. This same thing started happening to me a few weeks ago. No amount of merging and saving seems to work.

I am going to start a 1 baseboard route and make small changes and save each time in order to see where things go wrong...

The same exact thing happens to me.I made a thread and got very little help.

I just started with a new route and named it "new route 1". Laid some track and exit... when prompted, I took the default "overwrite" and did not save session. After making 3 changes and saving each time, I find I now have 3 sessions attached to that route... when I had specified "overwrite existing" not "save new...".
So, I take from this simple exercise, a session is created everytime one exits surveyor. That is, until I place a vehicle, then the options in the save window became available.

Hmmm... Off to try that.

Ok, laid some track, save as... , exit surveyor, Edit Route, add further track,
this time,' Save', (not Save As) pick 'Do Not Save Session'.
Seemed to work, must remember that;)

Another factor that affects the save function is whether your computer is logged onto the internet. I usually disconnect from the internet by disabling my wireless network when I am working on other things. I have discovered that if I am not connected, the first time I try to save a session, Trainz wants me to save a new route and session. I do not have the option to overwrite current session. If my wireless network is enabled, I have no problems saving with the overwrite option.

I'm not comfortable with this set-up. It seems like Big Brother wants to know what I am doing. I'd sure like to see the next service patch fix this so I have full save capabilities without having to be linked to big brother in the sky.

to clarify....

when beginning, and only track is laid, the save options are not available

If you can see it...

Once a vehicle is placed, the other options appear.

Having said that, I have been saving a route this way for weeks. I open it up today and there are no tracks, just my consists with a bunch of the yellow X on the top showing derailed... and this is in surveyor not driver...??? I didn't know it was possible to have a derailed consist in surveyor !

The same exact thing happens to me.I made a thread and got very little help.

Maybe if enough of us post threads about this problem something will come of it. I have sent as much information as I can to the helpdesk on this.

I am glad to hear someone else is having the problem. I was beginning to think I was the Lone Ranger out there all by myself. I will keep playing with it and see if I can find a "work around." I have created all the trains I use in save them in the consist List so at least I don't have to rebuild all the trains each time. I have had to reschedule them so many times now that I could almost do it in my sleep.

I just noticed you are from New York. I spent most of my adolesent years in what was a small town named Glen Head out on Long Island, was back there a few years ago, all the woods I used to play in are gone.

Yea I know where thats it.Beautiful place but the Bucks(Deer) have disappeared.

I have no optioon provided, all the options are grayed out. After the first save the options are available for me to select saving a session or not.

If you are logged onto the web, these options should become available on the first try. At least it works for me.

I think I may have worked around the route saving problem. When You first open the route go to "edit Session" and make a minor change save it. I ran the session and then backed out of driver and surveyor. Went to "Edit Route" and did some major changes in the ruoute When I went to save it opened where I had the option of saving the session and was not forced to accept the default session.
