Session Editing

The built-in sessions included with Trainz12 are Read Only/Write Protected.

If I edit a Session to change some rules and fix a problem, then save it with a different name, is there any way to get my personal saved sessions to load under the repaired master session and not the flawed original?

Or will I have to start the repaired session all the way from the beginning?

For example, the Westbound Merchandise Train Session under the N&W Appalachian Coal Route is buggy. (See an earlier post here)

It takes almost 2 hrs to finally reach Bluefield and the Bluefield Yard is denied entrance because of a Red light that never changes. The offending switch is locked and cannot be thrown the other way.

I edited the original session and saved it under a new name. Is there anyway I can force my saved sessions to load under the repaired session and not the original so I can take advantage of my 2 hrs of travel time already accomplished?

I think you are mixing up sessions and routes. You can create a new session anytime, if you edit an existing one and just change the name. If you edit something in the session, and your edit causes the route to change, then when you save it, you will notice that the "save as" asks you what you want to name your "new route" and session ( It won't give you the option of only saving the session) . If you do that, the only session you will have under the new route you repaired, is the one you just fixed. All your other sessions will stay with the original, un-modified route.

There is a way to edit the session config files, and replace the route in you sessions with the kuid of the new route you created, but it is a bit complicated, and I don't have the time to go though that now, probably someone else can show you how to do it.

I agree Bob but I think he wants to rerun a "saved running session". That will not run on any updates, only the route and session it was saved from.

Correct.

The N&W Westbound Merchandise session has a buggy Bluefield Yard 005 switch. So I edited the session and saved it under a new name. Then I ran the new, edited session, drove for 2 hours to Bluefield Yard, and that switch still wont operate the way it should. I changed the session rules to make the switch unlocked, but it still locks. I changed its direction, and it still throws in the wrong direction. It always throws to the left and locks even though I programmed it to throw to the right and unlock.

Actually, the original session tells it to throw right and lock, but it throws left and locks.

Doesn't make any sense.

Are you sure there isn't another train holding the switch? That can cause a switch to lock.

Interesting. When I mouse over the locked switch it does say " An AI train has control of this junction lever."

But there are no other trains on this track or anywhere near it. And setting the switch rules to "Blocks AI Control" doesn't help either.

If the switch is feeding onto a single track, I would be willing to bet that there is an AI train on that single track, which could be miles away. I would take another look before giving up.

Its hard to tell. The switch is on track in the middle of a yard that is about 8-9 tracks wide. I went into camera roam free mode and followed the track all the way to the end of the session. Then uncoupled my consists and drove rain all the way to the end. There is no other AI in my way.

There are 3 other AI trains in the session. One is a coal train heading to Radford, which is miles away and the starting city of the session. The 2nd is a freight train that has already arrived in Radford and is sitting idle. The 3rd is a train sitting idle in the yard where the session ends.

The most baffling thing is, this session actually worked the first time i ran it. But it didn't give me the achievement. The 3rd train at session end is waiting for me to trigger a block and then he will move, forcing me to wait at a crucial switch before i can switch it in my favor to enter the last yard.

Argh!!

Try removing the offending train from AI control and back it away from the turnout.

Then see if you can control the turnout.

If it is controlable, set it to the desired direction and restart the AI by entering the destinations that
were there before you removed it from AI control...

There is no AI train near this turnout.

It would be helpful if someone would actually drive this session so they could see what I am talking about and offer their solutions to reach the end and gain the achievement.

There is a switch on the other end that needs to be thrown to allow the first one to release. Just follow the same track a few miles to the other end. You will eventually find it. I believe this was answered in another thread. Search for Appalachian Coal.

I'll kill it now, the answer to the original question is "no". If you're looking to fix a screwed up route or session, that is possible, but having the changes somehow magically appear in your save game is not possible.

Why you gotta be like that? So the thread evolved a little bit. I never expected the fix to "magically" appear in my save game. Its a moot point anyway. I fixed the session and started over from the beginning. Editing the rules on the offending switch didn't solve it.

If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
