I purchased a copy of Trainz 12 from microsoft.com/games (downloaded version) everything was working fine until I was prompted to update. It updated to build 49922 and now when I load the game i get a blank screen. If I go into the options menu from the boot screen and remove my username and password and then click start the game will load just fine offline. I also noticed that in the options screen where you enter the serial number it has the old build number "46956" next to it. How Do I fix this problem??

1. Yes my username & password is correct
2. Yes my serial number is correct
3. Yes the unpatched version will work online if I completely uninstall and reinstall without patches

The auto patching can be wonky sometimes. I prefer to download the patches manually and install from the file.

When you patched, did you:

a) Run the patch as administrator
b) Turn off your antivirus product
c) Leave everything alone while the patching process is performed

If you interrupt the patching process, thinking it has stalled, you're in deep crap and will have to reinstall.

Okay, have you been uninstalling and reinstalling alot? Perhaps a registry cleaner could be of some assistance, something like CCleaner?

you are "ALMOST" a frickin genius!! When I run the game as administrator it works both online & offline! now how can I get it to work without having to run it as admin everytime?

Easy as pie, dude.

Right-mouse click on your Trainz short-cut.
Choose properties.
Choose Compatibility tab on the top.
Check the Privilege Level check box on the bottom to be: Run this program as administrator.

Click Apply
Click OK
You're done and ready to go.

I'm not sure I can take credit for being a genius. It's I've been there and done that, so more likely a well seasoned old fart! :)
