The solution is not to use the screenshot created by Trainz. Use Windows features to get the real screenshot.

Here is a screenshot with the overlays removed (F5 in Trainz). The clipboard has been pasted to a graphics program, and saved to a file.

Happy wife, happy life
Nothing beats marital support for your hobbies. So, here we observe a happy railfan in his natural habitat. And, lo and behold, a Baureihe 52 with a ganzzug of two-axle tankers passes his objective. He smiles happily, and lits the glass plate. Meanwhile his better half, shakes her head, smiles lovingly, and returns to her reading: "He is so sweet, when he is happy;" she clucks......

On a sidenote; I am not suffering from disappearing trees.
