scale

Once you`ve started building a route is it possible to change the scale you pick at the beginning of the route? I have one set for HO scale and I wish it was real scale.

I think you can change the scale. It doesn't really matter though because everything is the same scale. The only thing that changes is the rulers if you use them for anything.

Yeah that`s why I`d like to change it so I don`t have to convert measurements. Does the scale affect the numbers for height as well or just for measuring length with the rulers? I`m going to attempt to model an area of the rockie mountains and I`d like to possibly get an accurate height.

You can change the "scale" by going to Main Menu/Edit Route and selecting a different scale. Only the rulers are affected, not the other dimensional properties of the game, ie heights are still in meters and the grid is still in meters.

Ok, I can`t find edit route for trs2006. The only thing I`m really concerned with is the height anyway. So no matter what scale the route is in the height is always real scale meters? Just wondering because the mountain area I want to model has ones 4000 feet or more high. I`m thinking this might be a bit of overkill for my route considering the track is near the bottom and you wouldn`t really see the top.

Top left of your screen, "Surveyor Menu". It pops up when you move your mouse there. The height is always in full scale meters, just like the grid. I seem to recall that 2006 has a height limitation of 3000 meters up and down from 0 meters, so if you want the 4000 meters to show you will need to start down somewhere around minus 1000 meters or a bit more.

Ok thanks, I got it now. I didn`t know there was a menu there other than the 3 icons. Is the randomly rotate new objects the thing I`ve read about people using when they a placing trees to make a forest so that they`re not all facing the same way?

Yes. I leave it on most of the time and only take it off once in a while when I am able to line up multiple objects.

Thanks, that will make my forests look better from now on. It`ll be really good for the tree in the mountains since they`ll be on slopes and the ones in back will be more noticeable.

Looks great. I think the most I`m gonna do is the bottom 500 meters of the mountain. I raised a spot of a board to 1220 meters to simulate 4000 feet and from 2 boards away you can`t see the top so It would be a waste of time to do the full height.

During more than 40 years of 'conventional' railway modelling, I found that my best tool was 'modeller's licence' - in other words, if it looks right then it is right! Or to put it another way, selective compression is useful.

So this might have already been answered but I thought of this this morning and it`s kind of important to modeling my track through the mountains. I know that the ground height is always in meters but what about objects ,is the height value displayed when you adjust an object height also in meters? I`m asking because the best way I`ve found to do a long even smooth radius curve is to build it using fixed track and then once it`s in place I replace the FT pieces one at a time with regular track. I`ve got 2 spiral tunnels that I already have the curves done with fixed track but need to raise the loop so the portal matches a certain height before I replace it wiht regular track to do my grade through the tunnel.
