Scale

When building my (very amateurish) layouts, I have always used full scale.

On the occasions, out of curiosity I have set surveyor to one of the smaller scales, I have been surprised to see that the size of the baseboard relative to whatever is placed on it is identical, whatever scale I choose!

Would some kind person please explain to me what the purpose is of having different scale if they all look the same.

I do realise that there must be a valid reason, but I don't understand it!

The only thing that changes is the way the rulers work. They measure in units that match the scale you chose.

It changes what the rulers measure - mainly to help in building a model railroad, or taking a track plan from a model railroad magazine.

Scale Problem

I want to create a 10 mile run from maps downloaded from Google. I have tried all the scale but have failed. I want to create the Tehachapi Loop here in California. It is the only one of it's kind in the USA. I understand there are others in Europe.
Any ideas how to do this scale?
Thanks

Since we design in full scale in Trainz, 12 inches to the foot :hehe:, you would need about 23 baseboard to do your route, assuming it was a straight run. Add curves and you'll probably need more boards. Remember that each board is 720 m x 720 m

Andy,

You have a few options:

1. Go over to TrainzProRoutes.org and download the route then add your own touches to it based upon the google images. Remember, if you want to release your version you would need their permission.

2. Use the ruler feature on google maps to measure the features of the route and then transfer that to a Trainz route using the rulers in the Tools menu of surveyor.

3. Check the payware forum for a post by Geophil about his wonderful program TranzDEM.
