Saving Surveyor Plans

I'm running TS2006 and until lately, everything was going great. Now, due to some untimely sytem crashes, I can't save anything in Surveyor. Everytime I go to save a design, I get an error promt "Trainz could not overwrite read only route files, try saving under another name". These are routes that I previously have created named and designed. Even if I start with a fresh canvas and try saving even the simplest route, I get the same error. Has anyone had this problem before, and is there a simple fix. I would try re-installing the program, but I recently moved and mispalced/or lost the original disk. Any help would be appreciated

I've seen this intermittently in TC3. When it happens, I simply "Save As" a new route name, and rename the resulting route in CMP.

It does potentially mess the link between sessions and their routes up, though.

This problem crops up all the time for people doing large routes, and I read in here at some point that it had to do with the amount of addressable memory trainz could access. I noticed that when I moved my Sherman Hill route from my old computer, where I could not use the "save" function, to my new one with more RAM available that I could now use the "save" function once again, as opposed to the "save as" function. If you are now having problems with even the smallest routes, then you may have a memory problem in the computer, or you may not have allocated enough memory to trainz in the configuration page.

Let me butt in to thank you, gfisher. By coincidence that exact problem happened today with a large route I am working on. I figured RAM was the issue, so I guess I had better add some.

Thanks again.

When this problem surfaced here on my computer I was able to get around it by clicking on the "Save As" button and save without changing the name. It is a good idea, however to have at least one copy of any route you are working on saved under a different name so that you have a back-up.
Hope this helps.

Cheers
Russell.
