saving route

I recently had a computer crash and lost my route I was building, I thought I was backing up as I went along by saving local files but I guess that didn't do it. I would like to know the exact method of saving and how I put it back if trouble pops up.
I started a new route and now I am saving by going into cmp and saving to cdp. This is saved to a usb stick. Is this correct? And how do I put it back after a crash?

Yes, that kind of saving is best. Double clicking on the .cdp file should auto install for you, too.
