I have installed a LOT of new assets. If my PC crash, is there a way to copy .ja files (or others) to another harddrive (for backup) to simplify the re-installing of Trainz..(in case of crash)?
well, I'm talking about taking a backup of 'neccessary' files to avoid installing ALL assets again if my PC crash. What i ment was to re-install Trainz (do not take so long time) and then copy those files back into the correct folder.
If possible, I need a little tutorial . I hope this is possible as i have used all weekend to download and install......
How did you manage to get new assets into .ja-files? Is this TS2009?
Technically you could copy the entire Trainz-folder to another HD with all of its content and settings, I've heard of that being done.
Windows seem to have some difficulty copying .ja-files, it's a bit slow. Then there's a slight risk of corruption of .ja - I've experienced that myself.
You could save the local file in TRS to your hard drive and this will save your local installed files but this could end up with the same result . Should you try this only install approximately 40 to 50 files at a time so that you do not overload the CMP and this will probably find the fault file or files that are creating the problem .

In 2006/TC3/09 it's the Local folder that has your downloaded/modified content in. If you regularly copy it to a safe place (not your boot HDD) you should be ok.
I have installed Trainz onto a second internal HDD, and run a copy of the local file onto an external HDD via USB, which just gets used for backups.
There are a few other files you might want to copy as well:
The .ja files are just what comes with the game and would get installed again. If you've moved the TRS2006 .ja files into TC3 then I think you would need to repeat the process should the worse happen.
