Save file crashes Trainz

I am new to Trainz but cannot even get started properly as everytime I try to save anything the program stops responding. I got a nice green tick when I installed telling me my system was all ok but I am now wishing I had saved my money as I cannot even get a response from the helpdesk, hope somebody out there can help :(

Have you updated to SP3? If so you may be seeing a rare bug. I'm sure a fix is on the way soon. For the moment, a uninstall and re-install is in order to get working again.

Yes I have tried that but same problem, I have also installed on a second PC and same thing!! Looks like I am having to wait for a fix, thank you anyway

OK, are you understanding that I mean the save bug appears to be in SP3. I would install again but don't go to SP3 until there is a fix.

got the same prob with sp3. but if you use save as and change the filename then save. for example xxxx1 then xxxx2 and so on.
hope you undrstand what im trying to say.hehe

When it happens, open task manager, then find the process TADdemon. End that process.

What exactly is TADdemon? Is it needed for the game to work, or can I just end it once the game is started, and prevent the game from crashing when I save in surveyor?

saving

I agree with jalleballe. i have the same problem with saving so I just go through the save as route which works. you can keep the same file name. TADdemon is part of Trainz but after shutting down the game it is left running for a while and prevents you from starting up again so going to taskmanager before restarting and ending the process should clear it.

It is essential to the functioning of Trainz. Do not go into Task Manager and end it unless your machine has hung for quite a long time and it appears to not be using any resources.

Trainz is a database-driven game. All the assets installed in the game are stored in a large database. TADDaemon manages and indexes all these assets. Any time you terminate it, you run the risk of corrupting the database. As an aside, one unwritten rule of Trainz is that you should wait a few minutes before shutting down your computer after running Trainz or CMP, to allow TADDaemon to finish up its thing. Some people set TADDaemon to run in a window as a reminder to wait.

To back up what RRSignal says, do not terminate TadDaemon wait for it to finish otherwise you may get continual problems with the database updating on launch and peculiar problems when in game, since allowing it to close on it's own I have had zero updating or any other problems. Waiting also applies if you are turning the PC off, don't wait and you may well get a database update on the next launch or some other problem.
How long to wait? well sometimes a few minutes, depends on what you have been doing in Trainz, for a long editing session expect a longer wait. Best to have TadDaemon displayed then you can't go wrong.

...I just go through the save as route which works. you can keep the same file name...

Using 'Save As' then keeping the same filename is functionally exactly the same as using 'Save'. The point of 'Save As' and using a new name is that you do not over-write the old version of the route. Either 'Save' or 'Save As > OldFileName' leaves you open to the freeze glitch.

'Save As > NewFileName' does not over-write and appears to be immune from the save freeze glitch. There is however another ground-texture related glitch which you will still get, but that one only affects distributed routes, it has no effect on the route on the local machine...

I have had the same problem saving.

I now tick the option "do not save session" when saving a route after selecting "save".

Then after the route is saved I select "save" again which then offers me the option of save session only. (not needed if you have not yet created a session).

This gets round the hanging problem. It seems the hang up comes when you are saving route and session together.

By the way, I have found that ending process through task manager can cause Trainz to fail to start next time, requiring a re-boot, so I would advise aginst it

Selecting "Save session" at the same time as saving route seems to cause the freeze up.

Saving route only. Then saving session only works ok.

I had problems with saving route and session as it said the session was read only and could not be copied over. I saved as a new name but still got same error when saving. After doing more to the map I saved as and deleted the old sessions then reopened the map and saved as the original name and it all worked fine again, dont know why though.
