Hey all,

I don't know where to post this thread so I put it here for now, there was only Content Creation Support, Freeware Announcements and Payware Announcements when I'm looking for Content Creations section, anyways, I built a Victorian Railways E Class 2-4-2T Phoenix Foundry Builders No.293 and thought I'll build something different and want to convert it to a SAR M Class as 20 where sold from 1920 to 1922 (mostly Phoenix Foundry engines) I've search google and can't find any images so I thought I'll ask here as I have no idea what changes where done or the paint they would of used. Here's some images of it as an E class with the list showing what ones where sold to S.A.R

I do know that they where reboilered with A/Y boilers from 1905 with the front springs relocated to the top of the frames because they didn't want the axle boxes or axle box frame horns getting damaged from derailing that's the only mod I know that was done prior to S.A.R getting them, they also bought them for $3,300 AUD, but back then $10 AUD would of been worth $100 AUD.

Also, I don't want to see people posting for me to hurry up and get it done, I'll take my own time on building it, I would keep the project as a secret but I need help to do it :(

Cheers.

Hey all,

I take it no one knows where I can find or have detailed images of these?

Only image I do have is this and it's rather small

what I can tell from it is that the side number plates aren't used, BP is still in some spot, I did find some data though and turns out these still kept the original 140PSI boiler and didn't get the larger boilers installed.

What I did find interesting is that SAR started to scrap them from 1925/1930, pretty short lifespan wouldn't you say.
and yes, it'll be built as Broad Gauge only if anyone was wondering, building it to Standard Gauge will take too much work as the connecting rods will need to be narrowed along with narrowing the firebox, smokebox and cylinders.

Cheers.

Hey all,

Just a shot of the progress so far

If the image looks weird it's due to my current Graphics Card as I'm still using a temp one till I can afford a Radeon 2GB GDDR5.

any Feed back?

Cheers.

Hey all,

Just a small update on the project.

Just a question, I asked this over on Victrainz and I'll ask here too, did South Australia use the same numbering system as the Victorian Railways? as in a Brass plate showing the letter on the Fireman's Side front Buffer beam and Drivers Side rear buffer beam with brass plate numbers having a pattern, or did they just paint the letters and numbers without plates like on all modern SAR steam locos such as the N Class 2-8-2 Mikado which where numbered 750,751,752 onward's without brass plates and painted to the cab side.

Cheers.

Hi Aaron, might be a bit late but check your hotmail I sent a larger picture of an E class if it helps. would not take much to change this into an EE class cheers pete

Azz, I did reply on Victrainz, well, I tried to.

Locomotives running under the SAGR never had the letter of the class anywhere on them. Although, I might be mistaken, as I'm not sure about the F class

G'day Azza,

look what I found

Seems to be the same class though I'm not sure that was the number range of the M classes so it may be the wrong locomotive...

Cheers

Hi Pete,

Hi have an EE in victrainz storage, one of the original phoenix foundry built ones.

Hi Steve,

Thanks, that's a larger image of the one I posted months ago, just noticed it's got a bell on the roof, I've been searching everywhere on google to get a high res images but nothing popped up, I already know the numbers ranges though, the version I'm building is the Phoenix Engines

Code:
bn-254 "#256"
bn-255 "#262"
bn-262 "#267"
bn-265 "#257"
bn-269 "#268"
bn-271 "#269"
bn-272 "#270"
bn-292 "#266"
bn-294 "#271"
bn-296 "#258"
bn-299 "#263"
bn-302 "#264"
bn-305 "#259"
bn-307 "#272"
bn-308 "#273"

As you can see there's also gaps in the numbering, that's because the other numbers where used on the D Munro E Classes which where built from 1892 while the Phoenix engines where built from 1889.

Cheers.
