Runaround strangeness.

Hi Nicky9499,

It may be worth downloading from the DLS the driver commands 'WaitForJunctionPermit' and 'ReleaseJunction'.

The creator atilabarut explains that it works by creating a dummy junction in the middle of a section of track. The first driver to use WaitForJunctionPermit blocks any other trains from using that section of track until he releases it with ReleaseJunction.

Atilabarut warns that using these commands on a normal junction can have unexpected results.
You should be able to put a dummy junction in your inbound track?

Hope this helps, :)

Lindsay

P.S. Do a search for atilabarut's other content on the DLS, he also has 'ControlJunction' and 'FreeJunction' that may be just what you need?

I tried putting more distance between but it didn't work. Perhaps that particular location has some bad karma? I mean, the rest of my route works fine, and I'm just beginning to start placing scenery. I've tried placing a station alongside the old one but that doesn't work as well. I've placed trackmarks, direction markers, used commands and tried everything you guys suggested, but new problems keep popping up and getting me mad all over again.

Okay, let's organize a little.

1. Turnout A cannot function properly; cannot differentiate which train to give control to.

2. Trains occasionally diverge to the runaround and crash into the buffers.

3. Train also occasionally reverse into the buffers after running around the train. It is observed this mostly happens when turnout A is not in favor of the train in the station.

In response to Nicky9499's original question, Try "Run_Around_Ext" instead of the built-in Run Around Train. It may put your driver at the correct end of the loco. I haven't tried it yet but will do so soon.

This has been left to run for hours and works. 1 signal at the station end of inbound loop.
track direction marks. 1 each. at end of inbound loop,at end of run round loop, at buffer end of station track prior to stub end,
Track marks.inbound loop before signal, on single section just after jnct 'A', in station roughly where your last coach will be, near buffers.
Speed restriction, 10 mph into station, 25mph in run round loop.
Triggers.at start of inbound loop, centre of outbound loop.
commands, drive to t/mark inbound, wait for trigger outbound to be triggered by any train, drive to station,?????,uncouplez from 0,drive to t/mark buffer, drive to t/mark near jnct 'A',wait 10 sec, couple to vehicle at station t/mark,wait for trigger inbound to be triggered by any train.repeat.This worked at roughly 2 min intervals without problems for hours.
Good luck.

I tried it and it didn't work. Darn. Works OK on a pair of single cab locos working back to back (like a tube train).

Solution to runaround problems

I have quite a complicated runaround situation. A coal train comes into one side of the runaround loop, away from the platform, and unloads its coal. The passenger train comes into the platform side of the runaround loop, and loads and unloads passengers. The engine of each train runs around its train before leaving the station.

It all works perfectly. How? Not a signal in sight. And that's OK for my prototypical route, because photos of it have no signals visible. This is just another approach to the problem, which I came upon after spending ages putting in all kinds of markers and invisible signals. BTW I'm still grateful to lewisner and all those who helped me in those dark days!

Out of desperation, I reduced the number of trains running that branchline and found that trains run fine alone. I gues we'll have to keep it this way even if the branchline is supposed to be a busy one. =(

Does anyone else have problems with runaround loops?
