Run Trainz with Joystick?

Hello,

my son (10 years old) bought ProTrainPerfect for himself. It runs even properly on hic Computer. Now we've got the question, whether PTP can also run with joystick. Are there any experiences you can tell us?

Thanks for all answers.

That's not quite true Whitepass, unless I'm misunderstanding the question.

If you want to play the game with a joystick, you can either use software that comes with your joystick to emulate key-presses, should it have such software, or use 3rd party software to do the same.

It's not perfect, but you can get most of the things you need for Driver working.

I ran TRS2004 on my home-built Mame Cab for years, although I did custom-build the circuitry to emulate key-presses.
I had one left and one right joystick for controlling the train, and 16 other buttons on the cab mapped for other Trainz uses. :D

Or you could get one of those Train Controllers that some people seem to like (I'm sure someone will pop in with the name of it soon).

Smiley.

But am I right in thinking you can only use Raildriver in cab mode? As I'm more model rail minded than rail-sim, I'd love to be able to emulate a DCC set-up away from the keyboard. How could that be done?

There's a utility called JoyToKey, that emulates key-input from a joystick. You can download ver 3.7.9 from brothersoft, which I think is the latest version.

Works fine for me in Trainz with Windows XP using a simple game-pad, either in cab-mode or DCC. It has to run in the background and takes 1,2MB of memory according to taskmanager.

Use it on your own risk...
