Route/Trainz data loss

I had to reset my PC due to all sorts of things going wrong and on finally getting things seemingly running again, I opened Trainz Plus to discover all the routes I'm working on are no longer displayed as installed. What file would I expect to find the date for these on within the Trainz Plus folder? I should add that All Trainz data was stored on a separate drive from the PC OS.

On looking further, the local data folder appears to have been changed during the reset and is now directing to a Users folder in my System drive. Where should the local data folder be pointing to? I've found my Trainz Plus folder but not sure which one I should actually point to.

Thanks,
Innis

The location of the Users folder is correct and is the default location in Windows.

If I remember correctly, your TRS-Plus data-folder along with your other profile folders, including documents, pictures, etc., is located under a Windows.old folder.

If your content is located there, move it to wherever you want such as another hard disk if you have one. I put my TRS-Plus content on my F-drive and renamed the folder PLUS_DATA yes, in caps so I don't delete it by mistake.

Unfortunately, unless you have a backup and this isn't true, you are SOL.

I used a non C drive location for my Trainz instal unless Trainz has stuck something in there of its own accord. After I reset my PC, the local data folder was showing as C:\Users\Innis\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TRS22. It was previously pointing to a location in my D drive but simply changing the drive selection hasn't fixed the issue. I think this is also what is causing my data to fail to load. I've also discovered my DLC isn't available either, I'm guessing for some related reason, i.e. Trainz is looking in the wrong place.

If I redirect to the TRS22 parent folder I get nothing, but within the folder I have backups, cache, editing, libraries, original, packages, and screenshots.

I've no idea where is the correct place to point Trainz for the local data folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is correct. Trainz is using the default path and set up a base install without your DLC. It sounds to me you are seeing the default install. Changing just the drive-letter won't find your content. What you need to do is select the path.

What do you mean by parent folder?

If you select backups, cache, editing, etc., and get the properties on those folders, what size is the data? If it's only about 9 GB, then it's not your full database.

To select your data-folder on your D: drive:
On the Launcher, click on Trainz settings... Install tab.

In the install tab, you'll see the current path.
Click on the three dots (...) located on the far right.

A Windows File Explorer window will open up.

Browse to your D: drive.
Select your User-data folder, whatever you call it. I call mine PLUS_DATA, for example.
Close the window.

Update translation tables message will show and you'll have to restart.

If all goes well, then your username and password will already be there and you won't have to put it back in.

It sounds to me as if you're skipping a step and looking in the wrong place.

Fine advice indeed sir. All my files are back. I must have pointed the local install folder to the wrong place the first time I tried it.

Thanks a million.

Glad to hear you were able to obtain the advice to sort things, Innis - it would have been soul-destroying to have lost all that fine work!
