Route Question

Hi All,

Today marks my 2 weeks with Trainz and I was fooling with route building and I just did a very simple stretch with mountains on one side of the track and water on one side of the tracks, But the water is like this in the following picture.

What do I need to do in order for the water to be where it is suppose to be at? Th

I also have another issue. It is about doing tracks near mountains. Im not trying to do a grade here in the picture below, But as you can tell. It looks like it is doing a grade. How can I get the track to go on a level basis instead of a grade?

Thanks in advance

Eaglefan,

For the water height, in Topology Tab (F1), there is an Adjust Water Height tool, shortcut key 'E'. The button is located to the right of the 'Add Water' button.

For the track issue, make sure you do not have 'Fixed Track Vertex' enabled. This option is located in Options, Surveyor Settings in-game.

Matt.

I was able to figure out the water issue, But the tracks near the mountain issue. Im still having problems with. Ive tried both options with and without the "Fixed Track Vertex" enabled and I still get the grade.

I'm still trying to figure out how they came up with these labels, "Smooth spline height" smooths the terrain to the spline and doesn't do anything to the height. Fixed vertex height does nothing for the vertexes, what it affects is the ribbon between the vertexes;

On or off the vertex snaps to the height of the terrain at the start and end points, difference is a straight line between vertexes when it's on, ribbon between vertexes follows the terrain when it's off. I haven't played with the get and apply gradient yet, I've been using the get and apply vertex height to zero or adjust the grades;

GET vertex height for the general height I want the whole track to be,

APPLY vertex height to all the nearby vertexes to level the whole stretch. Then smooth spline height to make cuts and fills. Get and apply gradient might work as well, I've been using vertex height since I generally have a specific height match to go by.

Topology tool, get height, will show the elevation (in meters or French Furlongs or whatever them heathen foreigners use instead of real money) where the compass marker is. Multiply by 3.3 to get honest Christian feet.

OK, Lets say I want to set the track on the mountain at a height of 50.00 while the total height for the mountain is 90.00. I set the GET vertex height at 50.00 and then I lay all the track that I want at that height (Lets say 5 sections of track). Then, I hit APPLY vertex height to all the nearby vertexes which I am guessing is all the circles. And then I do the Smooth spline height. Once that is completed. The track should be straight like it should be and the tearrain should makes it form like it did with MSTS. Am I correct on this?

BINGO....Looks like what I said worked. See screenshot below

Now, Onto one last thing and it is about switches. I did a few switches today and everytime, I tried running my train over the switch. The train derailed. Any ideas on that?

And, Is there any way to create some nice looking mountains without any programs (All done by hand in the program itself)?

Also, You can delete my post over at TS talking about the same thing.

was the switch set in the wrong way

Have you tried the tutorials from http://trains.0catch.com/tutorial.html

There is a lot of useful information on this site the one I (hopefully) linked is about track and junctions etc.

Yes I have.....I took a look at it.

Instead of starting another thread. I have 2 questions.

1.) Any websites that have good desert vegatation?

2.) How I do install freeware scenery stuff into CM in order for me to use it?

Thanks in advance

I would read through everyone of those tutorials. Some were written with older versions of trains but the basic concepts and tools are the same. These are well worth it and could save you a lot of time or head banging against the wall in the long run.
