Route Making.

I am horrible at landscaping and I also don't have the patience for it and I was wondering if anyone could help make a small route with me. Could someone help? :(

You might want to give a little more information about what kind of a small route you want. For example, how small is small? 2 boards, 20, 200? Are you looking for a closed loop, model railroad style route, or a representation of a small bit of a prototypical railroad, or perhaps a route of a small prototype? Narrow or Standard guage? What routes have you downloaded and tried? Which did you like? Is this a freeware request, or a potential payware commission?

If you haven't already considered it, look at Progressive Rail from Trainz Pro Routes <http://www.trainzproroutes.org/progressive.html>

I'm planning on making a short route that is about 10 baseboards, many hills, fields, rivers/ponds and tons of scenery. It's in a big circle and will have some yards. All I really need help on is the landscaping, I will be getting the Ground Textures, ponds/rivers, track, and scenery. In other words, I need help making the hills/mountains...

In my opinion: Trackwork comes first. Curves, Yards, Switch's ... etc ...

If you lay hills and valleys first ... you will be faced with th same delema that old time surveyors had, laying track across severly rugged terrain.

I will help you with this project, and your skills will develope ... and you will soon be a "smart feller' " ... like me ! (or versa vica) (*art smeller)

There was a couple of people that made 1-2 baseboard routes, and they were fabulous ... SantaFeBuff I think was one (I can't remember) but I applaud their work !

Experiment using the Topolography tool box advanced tab, scroll through the different types , try doing a complete baseboard, try 2, try 4, adjust tolorence level, you can make very interesting landscapes with that tool. The undo function does become unavailable after a certain number of baseboards, cant remember how many. The more baseboards you include the more tolorence you can use and still make realistic looking elevations and such. Small areas with high tolerence level makes for some unique shapes.

Ah yes, I've used that before. Only problem is I Don't know how to make custom Landscaping designs on it. I want a route with sweeping hills like the S&C and Forested mountains like the Reading & Northern.

Do you still have TRS2006 installed ... If so, if you send me the route as a CDP, I will take a look see, and work on it for you.

I do all my surveyor in TRS2006, and later on import the route into TS10

I had TRS2006 installed but it glitched on my Laptop  So I had to uninstall, My old laptop still has it but it doesn't even let me log on anymore...:(

You could fix that old laptop, and get TRS2006 running on it ... I use my old "Beater" laptop for doing tracklaying.

If I did tracklaying on my good Desktop PC that has a good video card, it would be like delivering pizza's in the inner city rush hour traffic, using a Porsche ... Use the "Beater" Toyota.

True, but I don't know how to fix my old laptop and I'm pretty sure my mom doesn't want to spend money on it now that I have a working laptop :hehe:

What is wrong with the laptop ? Does it start up, to a windows desktop ? Did it ever display a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) ?

What are its specs (RAM, CPU Speed in GHz, Hard Drive size, Video Card or Intgrated graphics) ?

Make, Model ... etc ... ?

When I put my password in it says the user is not accessible. And I have no Idea what kind of laptop it is, all I know is it's from 2006 and it used to be my brothers, I got it in 2011 and it was crap...:(

Bet if you took it to a PC repair store like Staples, they could break the Password and get you in, and the laptop would be good as new ... even a low end laptop is great in surveyor.

Everyone should have a "Beater" PC !

If you re-installed TRS2006 on your new PC (in your Auran Folder) ... I could then help you with surveyor/routes.

How much free space is left on your "C" hard drive ?

Hi Nascarfan.

I myself have serious trouble working with terrain and I recently completely a route called "Chapham" which is available on the DLS.
I am currently working on a much larger route that is multiplayer orientated as it combines a good level of detail over processing cababilities.

If you would like to add me on Skype, my skype name is ductorphil and I would be more than happy to show you some easy methods of dealing with terrain generation.
I don't have the money for TrainzDEM so I learned the hardway.
