Roads and grade crossings

Hey, all.

Yep, its me again. I'm trying to figure out good roads to use with the "Grade Xing" items that BNSF50 made back in 2008 (they're on the DLS, the versions that don't use or need ATLS stuff). When I try to connect roads to the Grade Xings, most roads float above the crossing, and the tracks don't show up through the road. Many roads tend to float like 0.1 meter off the ground.

I was wondering if there's any good grade crossings out there? Preferably with 2 lanes and 4 lane crossings, with 2 tracks. 45, 90, and 315 degree angles. Also, I need working flashing lights (both / either pole or overhead lights), animated gates, and able to accomodate "floating" roads.

On a side note, I'm wondering why there is no traffic in TRS 2009? I'm working in the surveyor and have yet to see a single car spawn or drive on the roads I lay down. However, when I used TRS 2006 before getting TRS 2009, cars did spawn and run in surveyor. What gives?

Search BNSF50 with the "road" or "spline" button checked. They have several roads that go well with the crossings since they made the roads and crossings. Some older roads were set higher so the cars do not appear to float. Also just try different roads. Some work, some don't. See one you like, try it.

V,

You need to use something other than the default region when setting up a route in TS2009 and above. You can edit your route's config file I thnk to a region that would have cars in it. Otherwise create a new route with a region, and merge your current route into it.

Check out Maddy's roads too. Her YARN roads are nice and thick so they don't look like they float above the surface when they bend over hills.

I use both Maddy's and Clem's roads.

Some of BNSF50's crossings and roads are default in TS2010 (don't know about 2009) and none of the vehicles "float" above the roads. I'm sold in TS2010.

If anything Dave, I'm glad they got rid of the floating vehicles. That used to annoy me like crazy whenever I saw them at a crossing.

I don't know which roads are built in offhand either without browsing Content Manager. I think they were included with TS2010 and not before.

With the crossings, they can be "painted" to match the roads, or the surface changed from tar to rubber, wood, etc. if you want to by getting information on them - use the ? to bring up a dialog box.

Try "Road 1" in surveyor kuid 35412:37035.

Try "Road 1" in surveyor kuid 35412:37035. Works for me with BNSF50 grade crossings.

Thanks for the tips. I do have a few more questions.

1. Are you guys saying that in TRS 2010, cars don't float 1 meter above the baseboards anymore?

2. If so, can I transfer all mt TRS 2009 assets into TRS 2010, or does it require a complicated method?

3. I was wondering if there are any good road crossing kits that I can use YARN or other roads with? Stuff like T intersections, 4 way intersections, Y intersections, boulevard - roads, etc.?

The reason I ask is because my layout right now runs through both rural and urban areas. The urban areas and the station area in the rural towns will need quite a bit of roads, intersections, and stuff. I tried the YARN roads, and the one with the dashes and / or sidewalks don't fit BNSF's grade crossing because the road is too wide and the crossing gates + light poles end up in the middle of the road (yes, 2 lane road on a 2 lane BNSF grade crossing).

Any good tips for road making, intersections, etc.?

Well, for the crossing problem, I usually use the 4 lane crossings and put the 2 lane road on the middle spline attachment. The light pole/gate will be off the road, and yet it should still look pretty good and should fit the need.

I haven't been able to get ANY crossing gates to work in TS2010. I've tried bnsf50's and cloakedghost's. I've tried not running roads over them to rule out that as a factor. Any ideas? I don't see anything in Chuck Brite's tutorial covers this nor the wiki. I am placing these objects are regular objects, not trackside objects...though I don't see them in the trackside object menu anyway.
