Riding the Severn Valley Railway – A steam train adventure in the UK!

This is one of the narrowboat channels I watch. They were moored at Kidderminster on Good Friday and decided to visit the nearby heritage railway. Lots of train footage and a visit to the museum as well.

The UK has preserved steam tourist likes like the US does but they have a lot more mainline steam excursions than the US currently does. US class 1's except UP have a negative attitude toward steam excursions. NS had them again from Sept. 2011 through May 2017.

You are so right about that, its all about Freight movement 1st and everything else 2nd or none depending. I'm keenly aware!

I live adjacent to the Severn Valley Railway in a cottage and will be seeing 71000 Duke of Gloucester starting its running in period this week after a 10 year overhaul else where from my lounge window. Some light engine moves followed by loaded test runs. Will then return to doing railtours on the mainline along with many other steam engines already doing this. D1015 Western Champion is also out for test runs end of the week before the 4 day SVR diesel gala in a couple of weeks.

Builder of the ECML routes to Edinburgh and Dundee.
