At last! Tristyn District GWR (TRS19) Route plus a Session have just been uploaded to Trainz, and so should be available from DLS in a couple of days. This is an expanded version of the earlier Tristyn District route, and has been totally re-landscaped. It was tested in Build 117009. Enjoy riding the GWR rails!

Driver_Col,
Downloaded the Tristyn District GWR (TRS19) Route plus a Session into the (TRS22) product.
Used an FCT pass and fast downloaded over 1104 dependency kuids for the route and 384 dependency kuids for the session.
Average download speed was between 35 and 60 kilobits per second.
Excellent results, Content manager showed no red errors at all, no faulty committed assets.
Did a quick test of session and all consists running in session.
The scenery in this layout looks so realistic in the TRS22 especially when the change of weather is enabled on.
Just wondering if this Tristyn District route and session was packaged by N3V would the download time be a lot faster ?

Hi Mike - Re N3V involvement to reduce download time? I guess you would have to ask N3V as I have no answer for you. Regards. Colin.

Route and Session all loaded up fine into my Linux powered HP Xeon computer. CM says all is well but the simulator says something is faulty. I did an EDBR which made no difference at all, so I'm guessing that N3V has designated an older dependency as being 'third party' as they often like to do these days. Anyway I can't be bothered chasing after it since everything seems to be working fine.
My only real concern is that the session is pushing my ten year old Xeon CPU out to between 70% - 99%; - though despite that everything seems to be running reasonably smoothly.

The revised route is looking very nice, you've done a great job with it, - though it does look a bit strange to my eyes without any snow on it ;)
Two comments I'd like to make (ignore these as you like); Some trains, - and it's goods trains in particular, - are travelling too fast.
And you don't have any goods sheds. Possibly smaller stations can get away with just a siding or two, but major stations should have a large goods shed to store incoming and outgoing freight and protect it from the weather. As someone who is excessively keen on shunting and trip working I tend to notice these things.

Hi Annie

Re Goods train speeds - The yard operations have either a 5mph or 10mph control in their schedules. All other goods trains have a 30mph control in their schedules. I find that establishing speed controls (and similarly establishing passenger train stops in stations) involves a strategic decision! My passenger trains stop for 30 secs only which is stretching credibility somewhat however, I am pretty sure that having more realistic stop times would test the patience of a large number of players. I can recall seeing East Coast goods trains clanking through my local level crossing at probably 20 mph (maybe even slower) but, again, I don't think too many trainz folk would stay with a loco for 1-1/2hrs while it "clanks along". So .............. do I aim for realism and possibly turn off a large number of users, or do I compromise those factors and possibly turn off the more knowledgeable/patient trainzers? I would suggest that there is no correct answer, and it just comes down to a creative compromise!

Re Goods Sheds - Yes! Good catch. Gwladys Ddu, Branwyn (and perhaps Rhiannon) will be getting Goods Sheds!

Many thx for your input Annie. Always appreciated. Regards. Colin.

Um... I do, - but then I'm usually driving a trip shunt with an old '850' class using the steam controls.

All good points Colin and I certainly understand where you are coming from as a serious level session creator. Too slow and the non-historical folk complain, - too fast and old bits like me with a pile of GWR reference books start going 'Tut tut'. Can't win can you. :(

That's what I like to hear, - thanks Colin.

Not a problem, glad to help.

Annie,

You can always use the Set Max Permitted Speed To driver command to force your goods trains to drive at whatever speed you want them to. I do that for my coal trains on my routes so they don't exceed their maximum of 40 mph while the passenger trains can go at the maximum speed of 65 mph on the same tracks.

This is exactly what I did in the Tristyn Session. The only "hiccup" is if you save the Session after running it for a while. When you re-open the Session, the loco will default to 40mph, and will increase to designated trackside speed sign as applicable. Once it reaches a point in its schedule where it picks up the next Max Speed driver command, then all is well once more! I minimize that scenario by inserting the Command into the schedule at every feasible opportunity. It does not stop the previously noted "quirk" of Trainz, but it least the train won't be running for long before it slows down to the desired speed once more! :) Regards. Colin.

Thanks for the reminder John. Yes I do that on my own routes too, - only I wasn't sure if I would mess up Colin's careful scheduling if I did the same to his goods trains.
