Hi all. I have been away from trainz for some time but want to get back to it.
What is the difference (if any) between "2010 Engineers Edition" & just "2010 Edition" ?

Alan

i wouldn't know i'm guessing it would have more content over the 1st release i only have the EE version of TRS2010 & welcome back :) you might want to get the TRS2012 aswell & join TRS 2010 with 2012 :)

well have both & join them as TRS2010 has built-in content that TRS2012 doesn't have that ppl are still using in the TRS2012 layouts

With 2010 you have a choice of compatibility mode (for older content which won't work in native mode) or native. With 2012 your native like it or not.
Make sure your comp can handle any version you decide to get, wouldn't like you to join the " stuttering frames brigade". Nothing to do with old people that one.
And lastly welcome back to the world where anything can happen and probably will.

well TRS2010 & 2012 have the same mini spec's: Xp (SP3), Pentium D 3.4Ghz & Nvidia GeForce 7200/128mb

Thanks for all the replies.
As for going straight to 2012 I have read reviews & remarks on this forum that 2012 isn't as good as 2010 for a number of reasons so thought I would restart on 2010.

Anyway thanks again for the comments.

Alan

since i got TRS2012 i've only gone back to 2010 to get my old map's to bring over to 2012 once i get all the content runing right i'm removing TRS2004 & 2010 off my PC i'll never look back on them. But i'll be keeping the Build-in content from 2010 in my 2012 folder but thats it

Alan,

I see you have TS2009, it's a long time since I used it but if I remember correctly there is very little difference between a fully patched 2009 and TS2010, I would go straight to TS12 (a patch release is coming "soon"). TS12 has a new content set but you can always import your TS2009 content, including the built in stuff. Another thing to consider is that more and more content is coming out with a TS12 version which won't work in earlier versions (although I think the same thing applies TS2009/TS2010)

If you are interested in the UK 1960's period and don't have the Settle and Carlisle (2009) add on, then buy that as well, it's worth it just for the locos and stock and it loads into TS12 OK.

That's fair comment Boomer, but as Fran points out, you have to be sure your machine will run TS12, I went
from 2004 to 2010, but had to make upgrades to my machine to do that, it would have cost more to make it
good enough to run TS12, something I couldn't justify at the time. TS12 does require a better machine than 2010.

Personally I find TS12 runs with less 'jitters'.
But it does have it's issues for route building......hopefully much of which will be fixed with new patch.

As the OP has TS09, is there any benefit of him upgrading to TS10, if so what are the advantages ?

Or should he just jump to TS12 ?

I have been considering buying TS12 also.

Fair comment Kev but 2004 and 2010 are worlds apart as far as machine requirements go - the main difference being that in TS2009 and later more load is shifted to the GPU (Graphics Card). As I understand it 2004 will run on a machine with relatively low spec graphics, TS 2009 and later need at least a half decent graphics card. In my experience TS2009, TS2010 and TS12 are very little different in their PC spec requirement.

If the OP (Alan) is worried about his PC spec he could post the details here for opinions.

Though I am new to Trainz myself (TS12) I will jump in and 2nd the above. The Settle and Carlisle DLC routes and sessions are well worth every penny you'll spend to get it. Both diesel and steam sessions, freight and passenger. So far the S&C stuff are my favorites.
