Restore Deleted Kuid

I accidentally deleted a very hard to find kuid using CM3.3 that was a dependency for a old loco.

Is there a way to restore the kuid?

By "kuid", do you mean the whole asset? Check your Recycle Bin on your desktop, as it may be in there.

If not, then maybe you could post the K.U.I.D. up here.

Regards.

Here's the kuid: 138423:1100149. I've searched everywhere. I don't think it's around anymore.

It's an old RRMods kuid. It's a bogey of a loco and won't show in game without it.

I found my kuid after downloading the entire loco 5 times. Not sure why it was not there initially.

I'm still curious about restoring deleting assets.

Well, how about we all remember this if it is helpful: ;) :hehe: "Don't use CM to delete assets!"? Programs that can delete files may not send them to the Recycle Bin by default, like Windows Explorer does. As a result, you could end up deleting a file or folder with files permanently.

If there is a folder in TS2009 where all of the DLS, etc. downloads go (i.e. like World\Dispatcher\downloads in TRS2004), then you could look up the folder for the asset in there, select it, then hit the "Delete" key on your keyboard. This will send your folder with files to the Recycle Bin, where you can recover them later if you need to. ;) If you really want to permanently delete something, however, then you would hit the key combination Shift-Delete instead. I would not suggest doing this, however, as you may need an asset a while after you deleted it, and you can always clear your Recycle Bin later. ;)

I just recently upgraded to 2009. Unfortunately the file and folder structure is set up completely different that 2004. I still haven't made since of it.

Are sure you are looking in the right folder. i have just checked the trash folders in both TS2010 and TS2009 and all the contents are just as they would have been in the editing folder. No strange names at all.

Second thoughts about your post. What you will see are folders that contain all the files for the asset so you will have to search by the name and look for the config.txt to check the KUID.

As far as Content manager is concerned, delete = delete = gone. It does not use the recycle bin, it does not back it up anywhere, it does not go into the trash folder. Post by Windwalker on here somewhere, that explains what goes in trash.

However, as with everything, there is always a possible solution. If you use an undelete or file recovery program immediately after deleting it, you might be able to recover it.
As it's actually only the entry in the fat (file allocation table) that is deleted to free up the disk space to be overwritten, the data is often still physically there until this occurs. An undelete program can often find the actual file data but if you leave it for too long, the drive will probably have written over it, so it will be gone forever. Likewise if you have run a defrag, forget it.
Easier, so long as the item is available, just to download the item again.
