Request for Auran to make TS2010 available as a torrent

Put the tracker in a restricted area of the Auran web site, same as the current download programs, and let's just use p2p to get the software out.

Strangely enough torrents work for legal software as well as illegal software and you can have private torrents which this would be an example.

Please do not confuse this use of torrents with illegally downloading copyrighted movies etc. This is a legitimate use of peer to peer networking and is completely legal. It also takes the bandwidth pressure of Auran's servers and I'd like to be able to download my copy sometime.

Good idea if kept private. Torrents works well for one or two Linux distro's and take the weight of the servers when a new version is released. As for pirating I'm willing to bet that within 24 hours max, there will be a dodgy torrent available anyway, however 2010 is distributed.

Yeah, but who knows what it might include if it isn't from Auran. Not worth the risk unless Auran decides to make our lives easier.

My suggestion that folks with a successful D/L create separate torrents of the .bin files earned me 30 shame points. Pooh.

While I appreciate they're enforcing their rules, I REALLY wish there was someone over at Auran with some sense about these things. I wish someone at Auran would make the official torrent and acknowledge that they're only helping themselves as well as us - the peeps paying them to get out of bed every day.

And I agree that doing this would be bad. In order to ensure you get the proper product not one with added malware it needs Auran to set this up properly with a tracker. Considering the potential benefits to Auran this really does make business sense as well as improving the customer experience.

I agree. But it's also bad to have paid for something I can't get due to poor planning and an antiquated attitude toward modern technology.

And I agree with your statement, Auran could have set something up which would have given a better customer experience at lower cost. However Auran moves in mysterious ways and things do get done eventually. It only took two years from the my first suggestion for a four gig version of Trainz under a 64 bit operating system until it was implemented. It was about two years from the time when I first suggested using DXT compression to when they introduced it so don't give up hope yet. I've given up suggesting technical things in the suggestions bit, they seem to get moderated out as the moderators seem to have little understanding of what is being suggested.

We may just have to wait a couple of years first.
