Hey folks,

I received this email from the USGS. If you use the USGS mapping services to download DEM files, you need to login periodically otherwise you'll be deleted from the service. You also need to, as of October 1st, update your use profile.
I know this doesn't apply to everyone here, but I do know many people use this for route building.

Here's the email I received today:

Dear John Citron,

According to our records, your Registration Profile "jcitron" has had no activity for the past 12 months. Your profile is scheduled to be deleted in 30 days.

What does this mean?

If you do not login to one of the following systems that uses the USGS/EROS Registration Service within the next 30 days, your profile will be deleted. Any saved results, saved criteria, standing requests or personal information that you may have saved with your existing profile will no longer be retrievable. Once this happens you would need to re-register to gain access to these services, but your previous information will be lost.

Sites currently using the Registration Services are:

EarthExplorer: (http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov) USGS Global Visualization Viewer (GloVis): (http://glovis.usgs.gov) CRSSP Imagery-Derived Requirements (CIDR): (http://cidr.cr.usgs.gov)

If you wish to regain access to your profile, please login within the next 30 days.
If you forgot your password, please use the Password Reset option.
If you prefer to let your profile expire, no action is required.
It will expire in 30 days.

After all that text, obviously important for some, this option out of the other three I find most funny. :hehe:

This is very typical of anything that's official. The diatribe will go on for pages with a big to do about nothing. Why didn't they just say that you can let this expire if you want. :D

Anyway I thought I'd remind people that use the service that they'll have to log in at least once in awhile. This is why I got the email myself today.

John

Thanks for the heads-up. I can't recall the last time I signed in over there. I'll have to check it out.
