REMEMBERING THE OLD FORUM :

Hey guys.
I was part of the old forum. This forum is one of the reasons i gave up with trainz. The forum, in my opinion, became dormant..... and i lost all interest in it and ultimatly gave up with trainz.

How is everyone?

Cheers
Michael

Hi Michael,

I guess several other Trainzers did as you. Welcome back!

On the previous forum ('old' has been used too often to describe it) there was much activity.
On the present forum it is, I believe, once more picking up momentum.
It will never be like it was, & neither it should be.
New advances in technology, game versions etc, & new members now have a forum website that can work better than the previous forum setup.

So let's get this 'kitchen table' filled up with good stuff, that we can all participate in & enjoy.
By 'good stuff' I don't mean necessarily all the great stuff available on the DLS,
but rather the Trainz Community 'togetherness', 'good stuff'.

Perhaps 'clearing the kitchen table' in some ways was a good thing.

Which brings up a point.....is there an archived backup available to members, of the previous forum content?.

:)

To me the worst thing about the loss of the old Forums, was the copious knowledge lost. Form tips, tricks, suggestion right down to missing kuids.

Like some others have posted, the "something different" from my interpretation is based around character. This "character" applied to both users of the day as well as the Auranites themselves, and the frequency the old Auran Flags used to make in threads as well.

Since the crash, more groups have also established their own Forums, so Users do post elsewhere instead of a major centralised point.

Is this all a bad thing?? Well, change (with anything) is inevitable....and change is as good as a holiday. To go from zero in November 2006 to what we have today, is really a pretty fair effort in anyone's books.

;) The only aspect of the Oldie but Goldie forum I missed (leaving the good old people there aside) is the never-well-appraised Whingers and Sunblowers threads, where funny civil unscientifically-based likes and dislikes about new versions of Trainz were conducted to a merriful final conclusion: Do what you like, Trainz the way you wish!

I do think that kind of threads can't be possible in current state of trainzy affairs over here. Those were the days, let them be a smiling remembrance.

And the only thing that really happened is time. ...
Barney aka Sinister Fat Controller (tm) aka Trainz Fan until the last breath

Hey, long time no read! But what a good read.

I agree that time is what happened. We were all much younger then as was Trainz itself. Many things still had to be invented as Barney mentioned.

Like my own childhood, I fondly remember the early days of Trainz but like my childhood, would I really want to go back and relive it; no. As good as I remember it, I can do many things now that I didn't even dream of back then. The same thing with Trainz. Lets keep the good memories but enjoy what you have now. So enough these will become the good old days too.

Don't forget that much of the "ambiance" then was created by the people who contributed to Trainz and the forums. Today that means you. Anyone who moans about the lack today should have a good look in the mirror. What have you done to make this a better place? There is no magic wand to create a "fun" forum. Each and everyone has to contribute to that. :)

Love Bernie

WOW Bernie !
A very civil post , and you even closed it with love ! :D

In answer to your question , I believe it was blue , but I can not honestly remember ! (Ed will, I am certain :D). I do remember that it was a different color scheme and caused some " I like it ", " I hate it " posts when it was changed .

Yes, I'm sure...light gray, dark gray and orange.....as in your first link.

I don't count that ill fated 2nd example.

I guess there is some orange there isn't there. I see mostly yellow but if I look closely at the top I can see the orange. Maybe it's just me getting old and can't see as well any more.:)

Wow ... at that time ( of Meridious screen-cap ) there were already almost 120,000 topics. Add a few more for the last few months of its existence and it is shocking to realize how much valuable info was lost with the crash.

Me thinks Ed is correct, I would have placed some containers of Jiffy Pop on it !

Ed, is my mentor ---

Thanks for bringing back copies, to bad one can no longer access them !

Oh I almost forgot....

The old forum showed what Trainz additions a member had registered....which was helpful in answering questions.;)

"light gray, dark gray and orange".

That would be really hard to read wouldn't it? ....... nobody would use only those three colours for a forum surely ;)

Mike.

They were different times and everything was new and experimental so it was a lot of fun, but there's no reason why it can't be the same again if Auran give us a version we can all use together again.

I do miss the sidebar on these new forums though.
The little flag was good, but mainly it was the boxes that showed which versions of Trainz people had registered, which meant we could avoid helping warez users.

Yes. The flag show what country the member was from. I liked that.

There been a lot of bridges burned. So there's no going back to the way it was. And until Auran is back on good financial standings, I don't think we will see many improvements around here.
