RED BUG

I just got the red bug of death again. So before trainz dose it’s disappearing magic act on my route. I thought I’d ask what the error was about. This is what it said “ Train : Thread Exception:ER_NullReference, line 1521, train.gs (1)” then I clicked on More and that said “ Stack dump: function $Permit[]@Train:TackPermitOnTrack(bool), Line -1 function $void@Train::Inlit(), line 1593”. Got no clue do you?
While I am here I have a question about 2 other errors. While putting in frogs in a couple of switches. The first switch they went in ok but the second is where I got the error. The error is “ Cannot add object as the selected layer is above the targeted track. Trackside objects cannot be placed in layer above the track they are being attached to.” But after a few tries it went in. The second is when I tried to go to Drive on my route. It said : “Trainz could not overwrite read-only route files. Try saving with Different name. Why did I get them? Thanks funnnyfarm

Sounds like maybe you're placing frogs on the session layer, instead of the route layer. You can check by hiding the session layer in the layers tool box.

You don't say but I will assume this problem arose while running in a session? The code is trying to get a list of permits for the track for the direction in which it is travelling. But an object, probably the vehicle itself, does not exist. This is kind of odd since, by definition, each train consists of at least one vehicle.

This is in N3V's code so I'd probably raise it as a problem report to them.

You would need to do it via the Helpdesk, however...

That error can be caused, as I've said to quite a few people now, by a mismatch between the config file and the asset's script. This needs to be checked, possibly with the creator if they are still around.

In the short time I have run TS12 build 58414 and getting the Red Bug I have found the rolling stock is the main problem in my experience. I only had about 40 in my route. So I deleted them and now for the posses of elimination, and one at a time and going to driver. To see if the Red Bug comes up again. Just a little info. funnnyfarm

I too have seen this but like you only with faulty content. Through the KUID number I tracked it down to a faulty flat car (one of the Majkeer ones - sorry if I spelled his user name wrong) and other being a beautiful rail crane from a Russian developer. The crane looked perfect but caused Trainz to barf badly, figures.

Well I did the prose of elimination, I re-installed the same rolling stock. But this time the red bug did not show up. The suspense continues. Thanks funnnyfarm
