Re-install Recovery and Download Helper Troubles

I'm running 2009. I'm not even sure if I have SP1 installed anymore after re-install. Also, Content Manager is showing Version 2.0.

My problems started with Download Helper doing just as nPulse posted he was having troubles with it. I tried the solution suggested to him. No luck. I tried to run patch. Patch seemed to make it to end and then gave me the message TrainzUtil not responding and I had to close the program. As expected, Trainz would not open at all after that. I saved my Local file and then went ahead with a re-install.

Re-install was successful. I copied all files from backed-up local folder into Trainz local folder. I have all my downloaded and modified content and it will install into a new route. The trouble is I can't open any of my old custom routes. When I try to open it gives me the message "Error - Missing Maps or Deleted Files" In Content Manager it shows missing and faulty dependencies in my routes. I tried deleting the missing or faulty dependencies, still no go. And my most recent route shows an unknown of <kuid2:76096:100199:1>

I guess I'm looking for help getting my routes up and running again first and then try to fix my original problem with Download Helper.

Welcome to the forums.

The first thing I would look into doing is to patch your Trainz version to at least 41844. This may be possible to do automatically (by entering your username and password in the Configure Trainz box, then clicking Patch Trainz if available), but it's not always possible to do it that way. Can you tell me what your build number (5-digit number on Launcher) is?

Shane

The first time I ran the patch was from the Configure Trainz box. The patch button is not being shown now that I have re-installed.

No problem. Download and install the following manual patches in order, making sure Trainz is not running. It would advise doing a database repair between each patch - to do this, click Content on the Launcher, then click File, then Extended Database Repair - once it is complete, close Content Manager to proceed with patching.

http://download.ts2009.com/patch/37625_to_40040.exe
http://download.ts2009.com/Beta/40040_to_41844.exe
http://download.ts2009.com/patch/41844_to_44653.exe (warning - ~450MB patch)

I can tell you that you are registered, so that's not a problem. If you were not, I would have suggested that at the start - don't worry.

Thank you for all your help so far. All patches have been successfully applied and my routes are up and running. Albeit with quite a few missing and faulty dependencies messages in Content Manager. But I can live with those for now. The routes work regardless.

Now I still have the original problem that started me down this path. Download Helper isn't working. I've included a screen capture. When I click on the [Start] button, nothing happens. Nothing. I've already tried the delete, save, re-open, enter and save user name and password. I also went into Planet Auran, logged out and then back in again. Nothing. Also a bit concerned about all the "?" where it used to show "DS". Not sure if that is a problem or not.

Any suggestions?

I've managed to get it to work, but only by copying and pasting the address. It looks like you need to do an extended database repair.

Shane

Did extended repair again. I think this will be third time. It did one automatically after patch. Then I did another one. And just did another one. No change. I will say it hangs at "Checking for faulty assets" for about 10 to 15 minutes. It also gives 3251 errors and 336 warnings. Probably not good. Most of the messages are "Asset <kuid:xxxxx:xxxxx> does not match the asset database record"

Has the amount of assets with a ? reduced? The error you state is not actually an error. It's normal for it to take a while at 'faulty assets' as this is when it checks for faults.

Shane

Doesn't seem to have reduced. One item of possible interest is that when I click on the "Download Station" tab it says "There are no items to display" The tab showing is the screen shot is when I put "keyword" into searh box. So it doesn't seem to be connecting to the Download Station.

I would strongly suggest that you check that your firewall software is not blocking Trainz. As I do not know what firewall you are using, I cannot give specific advice.

Shane

Shane,

Thank you so much for all your help with this.

My firewall was disabled, but there was a pesky web filter causing the download helper problem.

Things seem to be working much closer to normal now.

Again, thank you for all your help getting this sorted out.

Thanks,
Dale
