Random routes disappeared from my menu list.

Using Trainz 2010EE. Launched game this blizzard morning (here in Boston) eager to play this route that featured a similarly bleak, bitter cold landscape (I like doing this real-weather-sympathetic scenario playing for more realism: I wonder if I'm alone in this proclivity) that was in my routes list and i had been saving up for just such a day to drive, and found it gone!. I am presuming this proves that Trainz [and seemingly most (all?) contemporary dlc content games] is perpetually connected (and dependent on the whims of) the N3V server. I also have the mobile Trainz Sim version on my touchpad which I play but the contents are entirely different and seemingly unrelated between my PC and touchpad. I have not deleted any routes on either one, and I only deliberately went 'online' in my PC game last night to download some surveyor buildings etc. (which I'm just learning how to use) No deleting done there either. I had assumed the routes that my downloaded, paid for PC Trainz came with were mine permanently, and were company created (the yellow planet icon). So I have no idea where it went. Also, a bunch of new routes popped in there that I did not download. they seem fun and all, but I obviously don't want my existing content to randomly disappear.
Does anyone have any information on this phenomenon? Are users just subject to the whims of the N3V server which can just add or delete content at random?:( Is there any way to stop this? I went down the list route by route reading descriptions and did not find it. It's bad enough the single route is missing, but the implication that this can randomly happen anytime is worse. Do I have to click the 'Favorites' star next to a route I wish to permanently keep to prevent the Server from taking it out of my content? How do I stop this, and where can I find that route again, or future routes that might disappear? By the way, the route description began with (paraphrased) "get your gloves and jacket for this wintry, bitter cold drive in Northern_(some place in the upper midwest); does anyone know the official name of this route, I'd like to at least be able to maybe find and download it again if the loss is just an unfortunate reality of this game. I appreciate any help given.

If its not that you have ticked the yellow star?
N3V do not delete things from Trainz, a corrupted install or more likely a messed up database may cause things to appear to be missing.
Could be caused by shutting your PC down too quickly after closing Trainz and screwing up the database.
When ending Trainz do not shut down your PC until TadDaemon has finished it's background work or you will find all sorts of things go wrong, leave for a few minutes or check in task manager or enable the database process windows in Launcher options then you can see when it's finished. This problem is peculiar to 2010 and 2009SP4.

Built-in routes are just that, they are hard coded in the ja files and cannot be deleted either by you or N3V if they could which they can't.

Best to go here and read the tutorials if you have any further problems http://trainz.shaneturner.co.uk/tutorials/ or if a database repair doesn't fix the problem post in the 2010 forum http://forums.auran.com/trainz/forumdisplay.php?59-TS2010

Granted a patch could remove content however most patches that are content related add or update, not remove. Think the OP was more concerned that N3V were going to just randomly delete stuff from his PC which isn't going to happen.

Indeed. N3V do not have the ability to randomly remove content like that, and even with patching, I agree that removals do not happen very often, unless a database repair causes an unexpected removal of an asset, which only happens if the asset is corrupt.

Thanks for your reply Malc. That is very likely exactly what happened, as I do shut down my computer immediately after I (believing I have fully-) closed Trainz. I did not realize the Daemon was still doing housekeeping. I am really glad you warned me about this, so I don't lose any more content this way!
But what do I do now? I went to Shane's tutorials page (not for the first time), but, as before, many of the terms used are still mysteries to me. (I've had to learn more about ancillary server/computer processes since starting to play train sims than actually driving the trains :(, but I suppose it's worth it)
Could you recommend one of these tutorials that would fix my problem (bring back my lost routes) by running a database repair, or is this something relatively very easy like re-installing the game? (which I'm nervous about too, but I'm sure Shane has a tutorial for it). Is there some equivalent of an in-program 'refresh' button (or steps) I could just click that would just tell the game to sort itself out, get right with the Server, and make things right as rain again? Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you.

First thing to do to stop any further problems with TadDaemon is to enable the Database Process Windows.

From the Launcher,
Options
Developer
tick show database process windows
then click OK.

What this does is add the minimised TadDaemon Window to the taskbar and also the TrainzUtil window or Windows, if it's working there may be several of them.
When closing the PC wait for both of them to disappear from the task bar, you can open them and watch what's actually being done without causing any problems. mainly it's deleting cached files, connecting you to the DLS, logging in and such like and validating assets you may have downloaded or edited or installed.

Then and hopefully this should sort out the problems, you can try an Extended Database Repair commonly known as an EDR, effectively this is the one click fix and normally solves most problems, if you get any.

Start Content Manager
File
Click Extended Database Repair.

This may take a long time depending on how much stuff you have installed and the capability of your PC, it also may appear to have stopped when it actually hasn't, again if in doubt you can look at TadDaemon and TrainzUtil to see what's going on.

During the EDR it is normal to get a list of errors, this is actually what is being fixed not what is still wrong and can be ignored, what you need to check is that there are not more errors in Content Manager than when you started, hopefully there will be at least a lot less and only due to maybe downloaded faulty assets.
