Thank you Hert. Erik only comes here to do just that. In fact he used to email us on a daily basis begging for us to create content. When we told him no, he threatened myself, my team, and my family. Today's email was one of the funnier ones....

"Just thought i would let you know
Man you all have people bagin you all to make payware for RW over the the RW Forums i really wish you would all would respect the Train sim group and make some more stuff."

Thugging ain't easy, especially on the interwebz. LOL!

Mike

Looks like Erik (BNSF650) is not the only one on the Bash the Jointed Rail band wagon, don't see any bashing about MSTS content providers not making content for RW other than the few that are making content for RW. My guess is they are jealous that Jointed Rail makes high quality content for trainz and won't port over to RW.

Looks like the the link has been disabled and the post removed.

Just talking about railworks. What things have railworks that trainz doesnt have?? Rain drop effect??? you have it in trainz. A locomoitve around the french trainz world haves it. Sun/ reflections effects?? specular lights is like it. Yeah there will be good to see how a cab or an interior turns dark when you cross a tunnel. And for the shadows just simply get PEV's quickshadows and make they. And the water reflections is good for take a pic of a train near a place with water or for see trains near a river. Water reflections are good in a ship sim

Just my opinion
:)
Cheers

It's funny to see all the speculation over there. We're not going to waste anytime creating anything for that sim until they decide to fix stuff that's important to us. Rain on a windshield is a joke. This is not a rain simulator. If they spent the time it took on that foolish rain to improve the AI, signalling and route editor then maybe it would be time to consider it. Until then we are perfectly content to continue with the TRS platform which allows us to do pretty much whatever we want. No sim is perfect, however this sim has everything we need and we haven't introduced some of our newest scripted features. They can boycott all they like and piss and moan about it but the fact is they have a lot of work to do on core enhancements before we go down that road. The only reason we did RW content for a brief time (and then cried and went home....:hehe:) is so we could have something to use that was somewhat prototypical. Unlike the EMD ES44, we want to create and operate prototypical content. RW is catering towards the UK stuff, and they are doing well, good for them. They aren't doing it for us, so we're going to go back to worrying what to do about the few clowns who are "boycotting" JR. I suppose the remaing 4,978 customers will continue to enjoy the content. Enjoy that. We will continue to create stuff that resembles actual prototypes. Grab some Rain-X as I think there will be more tears about our poor attitudes...

:mop:

Now let's let them get back to the bashing. We'll get back to work on some more content for TRS.

Main problem I had was any complaints were answered with "It already does what we want it to do, who cares what YOU want?" And the cheerleaders chimed in with "Yeah, if you don't like it delete it and go away!"

So I did. Now they're finally figuring out that the majority of the people they chased off were freeware content creators. :'(

"But it is dishonest to say that AI and signaling/dispatch is not being worked on, when it is"

Which is it Sean, there's nothing wrong with the AI or they're working on fixing it? If they are working on fixing it they're taking their sweet time, it was useless in October 2007, became hopeless in January 2008, and it's been hopeless since then. And taking six weeks to set up and debug one simple facing meet that's rigidly dependent on exact timing of the arrival by the player does not prove that there's nothing wrong with it.

I don't think it is fair to compare effort for rain and for AI.

All these "environmental" or "ambient" effects - light, shade, particles or water with its reflection - are standard 3D stuff, well known algorithms, and some may already have been built into low level software or even hardware. It's complex, no doubt, but it is existing knowledge, it has been solved before, by many others.

Modelling railway system infrastructure and operation is quite different. It is not well known in the mainstream game industry and it is very unlikely that you find experts among the game developers. If I remember correctly Kuju hired a few external consultants to brief the developers in short seminars. Those newsletters they published after such events did not convince me of useful outcome at all. A game developer does not become a railway professional himself while he to listens to one for a few hours.

As exemplified by the reaction I got on UKTS at the weekend. I just posted another paragraph in the RW3 thread asking if anyone who went to Chatham got past the "oohs" and "ahhs" to ask how some of the more technical aspects of implementing superelevation were apparent or explained.

Expect that will get marked down as causing trouble, too.

Not to worry. Should be releasing Blackpool for RW today, then it's time to fire up Transdem and TS2010, build something, anything, for Trainz!

All Valve Steam related discussion seems rather pointless to me.

Let's consider a few simple facts: The Steam software is intrusive, by its very physical nature. It exercises read and write operations on your machine, with or without your consent. Logically it creates a state of dependency. Operations you as a user want to exercise on your machine may be subject of approval by the Steam software resp. their remote server, again, with or without your consent.

Now, some say that's fine. They find Steam trustworthy, believe Steam is not mining for their data or do not care much about privacy. They are also confident about the longevity of Steam, regarding their inherent dependency relationship to them.

Others say it's not fine at all. And by not letting Steam onto their machines they avoid intrusion and dependency. As simple as that.

Evangelising in either direction has led nowhere in the past and won't lead anywhere in the future. So let's try to coexist without patronising each other.

True, for those who are already in one camp or the other (or even both) they know or should know, what is involved. Its the potential new user who doesn't know all the implications who should be informed. Can this be done in a completely unbiased way, probably not, human nature being what it is so "'Evangelizing" in one direction or the other is inevitable. :o

"If I remember correctly Kuju hired a few external consultants to brief the developers in short seminars"

They did. And then proceeded to ignore the consultants and program according to the whims of a graphic artist who was under the mistaken impression that he knew all about operations and signals. :hehe:

Hi Everybody.
I have just received a free upgrade from Nuance to Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5. As I know there are quite a few of us that use Dragon speech software for posting on the forum among other things I thought I would just let users know as the announcement is being made on different dates throughout the world as I understand.

However, you can download from the nuance site immediately without waiting for notification of the automatic install.

With the announcement of the free upgrade of Railworks 2 in September and now this free upgrade of Dragon NaturallySpeaking it must be my lucky week and it's not even my birthday.

Apologies for being slightly off topic but I thought I would give other Trainz and Dragon joint users the information.

Re Steam etc., unfortunately it becomes harder and harder to avoid PC games which are linked to some form of online account. Recent GTA's are an example as are EA sports titles. I've even heard a rumour the latest Tiger Woods golf game will require a paid monthly subscription to keep playing (a la WOW). Disgraceful!

Which - and I know this from experience - is keeping a lot of us away from PC gaming. Thankfully, I also have a Wii! :)

So they took N3V title

And added a little fluff from Railworks 2

and called it railworks 3, still looks like failure to me. Nothing really new included that trainz doesnt have.

Titles:

N3V: Trainz Simulator 12

RSC: Train Simulator 2012

hert:wave:

They do have horn echoes and also have it where only the bell rings in the loco that's used and not all of them and their train cars are prototypical and have realistic sounds. Even default/built-in is good unlike Trainz.

You must be talking about the ES44 with EMD sounds. That's prototypical alright. Makes one wonder if you have ever seen a real train.

Yes I've seen real trains I've recorded numerous trains over the years. Oh and what made you want to say something to me about this I thought you all were done with me, huh? Yes I can't wait to see what this game has to offer maybe it might give me what I'm looking for.
