"I'm so postmodern that I live in a tent,
-
on a platform of skateboards,
-
that's tied to a tram"

I'm not sure if its been mentioned:

End of the line by the Traveling Wilburys (My favourite song :D ).

And what about that old "classic" 'The Athcheson, Topeka and The Santa Fe'?
'Chatanooga Coo-Choo'
'Morningtown Ride' by the Seekers (from Australia) back in the 60's.
'Night Mail' From was it the 40's Great Britain? Mostly spoken to music with the train passing by on a short film. Another classic.

How about
"Freight Train Boogie" by John Denver
"Mainline Moutain Railroad" Bob Woods
"Texas 1947" Guy Clark
"Freight Train" by Various Artis, in this case Larry Rice
I think some have been mentioned, yet they are some of my favorites!

Another blues song heard in the original Blues Brothers movie "She caught the Katy";

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hB3eCv_FOk

Is actually about trains, the "Katy" is the Missouri Kansas & Texas railroad, MKT also known as the "Katy". The phrase "Left me a mule to ride" also refers to a train, "mule" is slang for a slow long distance all stops train as opposed to an express train (varnish) or a commuter train (scoot).
