Railroad Art

SD45T-2

Going back in time...
(If anthore thread like this has been started. Please remove this.)

Ok ,lets begin.

Railroads have been a art and a science. May moons before digital editing and all that jazz, Railroads and Rail-Related company's spent hours to produce striking ads to sell products. Also this was done as a hobby for people like Howard Fogg.

My goal in this thread is to recall a time that I was never in and Celebrate the art of railroads.

So find that art and show it to the younger generation. (Well, I am part of that generation so that seems odd.)

The great Tom Fawell.

I happen to like this art because it seems so bold and striking.

Heres a primer.

I wish I could teach myself to paint in this style, (well, paint period :hehe:, stupid perspective)

Some of my favorite art though.

Does it have to be with physical paints and that sort of stuff or can it also be computer generated (eg: CAD)

No Computer Generated or Computer Drawn stuff. That makes it too easy.
Also.
No "Living machines" in anything.
No "Artho-trains"
No "Railbeasts"
No "Thomas"
No "Trains with faces"

I'm taking about realistic art here.

And I will practice what I am telling you here.

excellent works -- I myself have been searching for the artist behind this one that I use as my desktop wallpaper.

I love paintings of railroad stations and terminals. So much emotion in them. Trains coming in on there runs or preparing to leave. The mixed feelings of a departing passenger or the excitement felt as the train rolls into the station.

Railroad Magazine Covers

I have a page on my site that may be of interest here. I collect old ‘Railroad Magazine’ and have a page which catalogs the covers, which are amazing! Here is the address: Railroad Magazine Covers

I've seen that somewhere and I'm pretty sure it was done on a computer. That or something VERY similar.

that would be the artwork of Mark Karvon. I'm not sure if he does the paint with a tablet, but the drawings themselves are done on actual pieces of paper. Under that definition, I think they're okay.

You should check out his gallery. It's mainly warbirds, but there are a few trains and tanks thrown into the mix.

All right, maybe I'm thinking of someone else on DA then. Not that I have a problem with it if it's done on the computer.
