Quite Odd Things On DLS

The forums are moderated by a moderator. A moderator is one that mediates disputes and basically exists to prevent minor transgressions from becoming more serious, and affecting the community. A moderator is not tasked with enforcing law, that is a job for the police. If the forums constitute a community, and the COC is the community's law, then there is effectively no one present to enforce that law. A moderator is not who you call when someone breaks into your home. The police aren't much help either, but they attend to the various legal details after you've shot the intruder dead. Once the intruder is dead, there's no need for a moderator; the dispute has already been settled.

As far as the forum goes, like any community, members are expected to "police" themselves for the most part. Obviously if you looked at any city or town with a police force, you know that if every citizen of that community decided to disregard the rules, or even a majority of those citizens, the police would be overwhelmed and chaos would ensue. The forum is the same. Luckily we have complicated brains that encourage us to "stay with the herd" and value order. What I find interesting is the old saw about sex, money, and how much would it take to corrupt your values. I compare that to actions on the forum. If you stepped in where you didn't belong and prevented a child from being kidnapped off the street, you'd be a hero. If however, you step in where you "don't belong" on the forum and politely suggest that a member do anything to comply with the COC, then you're a jerk. So somebody says there's no comparison between breaking the rules by kidnapping and breaking the rules by posting oversized images in the wrong forum. So I refer you back to the old saw about sex, money, and how much it would take to corrupt your values.

We've already established what you are, now we're just working on a price.

And yep I have been banned for that one as well :) :) :)

Biggles steps in ...

Squadron-Leader Bigglesworth steps into an inadvertently downloaded asset after searching the DLS for aircraft and farm animals.

There is a creator who has been uploading very stupid assets to the dls...
I have never seen them on the forums but I will still not mention their name...

If I'm remembering correctly, there's a rule against "mini-modding" here - that is, you're not allowed to "step in where you 'don't belong' on the forum and politely suggest that a member do anything to comply with the COC".

No need to remember, the COC is Right up there ^. After reading again, I see no such rule, and the process has been recommended by a Mod before. It doesn't matter how polite you are, or well meaning, or complimentary, if you suggest someone comply with a rule that they don't feel applies to them, then the reaction is rarely gracious. Sometimes it is, and that's reassuring, but not often.
