Quite Odd Things On DLS

I only hope that one day, I'll be able to have good quality and detailed locomotives of my own creation for Trainz.

At the risk of sounding Confuscian, every journey starts with the first steps......

Confuscian- what a word. :hehe:

~snip~
First, while we might question whether some of these uploads have any serious value, there seems to be no malice behind them. I think they are the product of a few pre-adolescents who received Trainz as a Christmas, birthday, or other gift and are revelling in the power to actually put something they have made on the Internet whatever it is.

Second, while it is tempting to suggest that Auran/N3V ban or intercept such posts, we have to be careful what we wish for. Whenever a board of censors is appointed to control annoying material from "other people," they always end up controlling "annoying" material from ourselves, because their mission is control and they seek to do it well. It always ends up as a bad bargain in the end.

FWIW, I say abide it. It does no real harm and their "routes" can be passed over in a few seconds, unless I have really missed something. And who knows, one of these folks may end up being TS2020's content creation guru.
Bernie

Amen Bernie:Y:
Thanks for mentioning my work! I do try to provide a healthy balance of Poo for the community! Too bad you weren't around when I was working on my P.O.O.P line of assets...:hehe:
There was a time? ya mean it's not poo anymore?:hehe: Just kidding, I've got around 30 of your buildings on my current route - and they're not all casey's reskins

After re-reading the thread, I do admit to speaking a bit harshly of dash013. I am hereby deleting the previous statement occupying this post. Dash013, if you are reading this thread, please accept my sincere apologies.

Not in the least (read above post from Bernie) To open the can of worms called censorship would mean bad stuff around here for sure...... You can't censor creativity (unless you're the U.S. government). I agree that there's some hoakey crap on the DLS, but I just choose not to download it. It does take more time to surf because of all the clutter, but hey, if we don't allow one person's creation because of one person's opinion, who's to say the person censoring might not like, say, Justin's latest locomotive or Ed's reskin of a building....... You see where I'm going.

Retro - I'd forgotten all about the P.O.O.P. assets:hehe: that was a complete riot!
~quote from Euphod in '08~ So please, lower your standards as I have lowered mine, and post your suggestions here, or shoot me a PM if you would like to try some POOP before there's POOP all over the DLS!

:hehe:

I agree that there is no proper way to "censor" some of the ridiculous things that pop up on DownLoadStation. Perhaps if there was not such a social barrier to criticizing really useless stuff the authors would get the message. There are some who are odd types themselves who will upload something simply to get recognized even if it is negativly.

It is not a serious issue if those people who submit oddities are reading the messages. If not then even worse things could happen to the DLS that would bring on stronger restrictions.

I still think some of the dubious content other than the ones which by the title you can tell are pointless, is being stored on the DLS rather than put there intentionally for public consumption, it's possible some may actually be embarrassed if they realised their doodlings are on public view. I doubt if any of the recent odd uploaders even are aware there is a forum, let alone use it.
Censorship isn't the answer but maybe some sort of guide line or suggestion as to what constitutes a finished route, maybe as a popup or reminder as part of the upload procedure. I might also suggest similar for sessions for the description to include the name of the route it applies to, no way am I downloading a session if I don't know what route it is for first.

Would that count as an 'improper' way to "censor" the DownLoadStation?

As ever it's N3V's game, so it's their rules. Mind you, if enough people complained about the 'duff' content perhaps action would have to be taken.

Speaking of trash assets, don't even download anything by dash013. Those things are not even worth looking at. Crudely detailed, not the right coloring. Looks like a cardboard mock-up.
That's mean. Some of his assets really are good (the ones that aren't faulty) and i'm sure he tries to make good ones...

Please accept my apologies as well, boyerm. Bc of what I have said, I will not be posting in this thread again. Better to keep one's mouth quiet than get in trouble.

And if someone downloads that unfinished route and decides it's a good start for something to tinker with? People are redoing old routes all the time. I downloaded one a while back to get around to when I get some time. It had potential, for me anyway. To busy with my own and real life.*

At present the whole forums need a bit of a shakeup, it appears to me that due to the current lack of moderation that a lot of things that were not tolerated in the past are now getting through to the keeper and then it just becomes the current state of play.\

Look at the number of threads posted in the wrong areas that in the old days would just be moved on, plus the number of people who do not get an instant reply to a tread so they just start another one. And of course my favourite hobby horse out of size signature banners.

Yeah...that's what we need...more policing on this here forum...and on the DLS. We need more quality police...more signature size police...more grammar police...more spelling police...oh...and how about more font size police? Now you're talking! :D

Cheers,
Fred

Oh yes and I also propose an anti-discrimination class action against N3V – This is for all the people who have breached the COC and thus unfairly treated by not been banned by a mod.
They would be suing for compensation on the grounds of discrimination, that past members have been banned for breaching the COC and new members not be given the same treatment and rights.

Is it not a basic human right that N3V should ban all people with equality and not treat some users of the forums any different.

All the current user’s should be up in arms that they are missing out on the opportunity to be banned because it’s not their fault that there is a low level of forum policing at present.

Ok yes this is very tongue in cheek – it’s a slow day in the office
:) :)
