Quick question about Trainz 2010

Hi,
Over the years I've spent many, many hours on games like Transport Tycoon and Locomotion and want to get back into trains on the PC.

Does Trainz 2010 have a similar game-play style to these games?
e.g: You need to create a route from a coal mine to a steel factory: lay the track, build a train, give it a route to follow, make some profit, build more routes etc.

If so, I'll be getting this game ASAP and can see myself spending many more hours on this :)

Thanks in advance!

In a word, no. Trainz is best descibed as a virtual reality game where people can drive a train, give commands to AI drivers and even build their own route (layout)

I would say Yes and No,
  1. You need to create a route from a coal mine to a steel factory: lay the track, build a train, give it a route to follow, ......Yes
  2. make some profit,...........................................No
  3. build more routes etc.......................................Yes
Trainz is far more intricate than just a game!

TS2010 is to trains, what MFSX is to Planes.
If, it's a challenging build simulator is what your after, then give it a try, but be warned the learning curve is steep. But if you’re wanting more of a challenge to what you've got, then take a look at this and see if it takes your fancy.

This looks a bit steep as well.

"Learning Curve Steep," you got that right! I am retired and still can't find enough Trainz time.

thanks for all the replies. it definitely sounds interesting, although cant help but wonder if they 'could' have introduced a 'money' option - have budgets, find the cheapest route from A to B, stick a cheap train on until the route makes money, keep train on schedule or lose money etc.
it would give it a different 'angle' to the simulator

just a thought anyway.

What trains come with Trainz 2010? I've tried searching around but one similar question went on to become a discussion about framerate :o

Andy
Quite a lot of british aust and US. and a lot more on the download station.Over 100,000 assets. You will see if you play this sim why things like money rewards are necessary. Beside,s you will be too busy to earn money.

Andy, there is quite a good sample of difrent trains that come built-in with TS2010. But if you have a look on the download station. (click button at top of page) You will see thousand's of trains, houses, trees, objects, roads, fences, you name it it's there somewhere, the list of rolling stock is massive and getting larger by the day.:)
