questions about stuff being bought from steam and on site.

so basically is, I have trainz 2022 stuff bought from trainz's official website. And while there is also trainz stuff being sold on steam. If say I also bought just purely for the DLCs from steam. And I use them on my trainz 2022 which was the one i bought from using trainz's official website. Or will it not be possible?

Not Possible at all Totally two Different Platforms when buying content then.... they are not interchangeable!

Starting from version TANE and above, it doesn't matter what and where you bought it. You can install any DLCs in any version.
Steam and N3V (Trainz's official website) versions differ only in the way the base game is installed. Everything else is identical.

Taking advantage of this thread I am curious to know if the following is true:

A few days ago browsing the web (you know that one page leads to another and another, etc...) I ended up reading on a Russian page that Tane and Trs2019 through steam do not have DRM.

Is it true?......

i tried installing DLC from the Trainz Store and installing it on my Steam Version of TRS22 PE and it failed to install the items bought on the Trainz Store page where the Forum is hosted!

It is not true. Steam version has DRM like N3V (Trainz Store) version - it is linked to the Trainz account and additionally the most primitive Steam DRM.

"Failed to install" - Is it in the list of purchased items as here: https://forums.auran.com/threads/should-i-buy-trs19-or-jump-to-22.178241/#post-2024144
and an error occurs when trying to press install?
Or is it not on the list of purchased items at all?
Steam and Trainz Store versions have the same nickname and pasword in the launcher and registered for same Trainz account?

Uhmmm Steam and the Trainz Store are Two different logins and usernames for user profiles.... I have it so i know i am on the steam version of TRS22PE right now and the Ingame launcher has the same username and password as the forums.. I am under a Different username on my steam profile.. Try and find me under my Forum name you won't find me on steam!

What I described above implies that everything after the purchase is under the same account like my forum name.
It is because of the different accounts that you will not be able to combine everything together.
Steam protection (DRM) works only for launching the launcher. After launching the launcher, the game is completely transferred to the protection (DRM) of Trainz Store
and you can enter any data in game launcher. Steam DRM does not work anymore.

They both need to access N3V's DRM servers on first time startups and every 30 days after regardless if Steam is offline. The only difference with Steam version is, you can launch and start importing content without need to log into the game unlike the N3V version (Valve's rules or something - don't know).

Cheers

To remove some more confusion, the only difference between Steam's version of Trainz and the one sold on N3V is that N3V had to recompile the Steam version with a special "wrapper" in the code to make the executable, meaning the program, only work with Steam. This is a requirement by Valve in order to sell products on their platform.

Tony Hilliam or Zec Murphy explained this a while ago. I hope it makes sense.

Any of them will work with any starting from TANE, if all are under the same Train Store account.
Here I have a part bought in Steam, and a part in the Train Store and everything works together.
They will only be marked differently as detailed here: https://forums.auran.com/threads/should-i-buy-trs19-or-jump-to-22.178241/#post-2024144

You will not be able to buy any DLC from Steam if there is no Trainz game on our Steam account.
I logged into Steam from my other account, which does not have a single game Trainz. There is a warning on the any DLC purchase page marked with a red arrow:

I ignore the warning and are added to shopping card and I see another warning and there is no "Buy" button at the bottom:

In short, if you bought the game in Steam, you can buy DLC in Steam and Trainz Store. If you bought a game in Trainz Store, you can buy DLC in Trainz Store only.

Hi All
Just to confirm:

DLC packs purchased through Steam are only able to be installed into the Steam versions of Trainz, they cannot be installed into non Steam (ie from the Trainz Store) versions of Trainz unfortunately. This is a requirement of Steam itself.

DLC packs purchased through the Trainz Store can be installed into versions purchased from the Steam Store, but will show under their ID numbers in the Content Store.

Regards
