Questions about Las Vegas

Hello all,

I am planning on modelling the railroad yard(s) in Las Vegas, Nevada and Cima Sub. Is someone able to answer the following questions:

- Is there a functioning railway station in Las Vegas?
- What industries are in Las Vegas?
- Which railways use the line?
- Are the ties on the sub concrete or wood?

EDIT: Can anyone provide a map of the Las Vegas RR yards?

Anyway, I do know that there is rail in LV, from a pic that my parents took when I was a kid.

There used to be an Amtrak station in Las Vegas, but no more. Here's a page with a couple of pics: http://www.trainweb.org/usarail/lasvegasnv.htm I took Amtrak from there once when I was a kid in the late '80s; it was less than impressive. It reminded me of a bus terminal, not a railroad depot...

the only railway that operates in las vegas (and i think the rest of the state as well exept for that one in ely) is union pacific. my grandpa works at the yard down there maintaining the track.
there are no stations in las vegas which suprised me cause its a big city.
im not sure about the ties though.

Amtrak, the Cali Zephyr, runs through Reno on UP tracks. I've never seen tracks in Lost Wages.

They used to (the Desert Wind, which in Salt Lake combined with the Pioneer from Portland and the California Zephyr from Oakland to continue on to Chicago). It was discontinued in the mid-90's. There's still talk of reinstating it, and at one point it was almost ready to go when Amtrak's financial situation imploded a few years ago. The Las Vegas station stop was made at a makeshift (and rather hot in the summer) Amtrak station located in the back of the Union Plaza Hotel.
